Part black. Part Irish. Part Lumbee Indian. Wholly determined to protect her family. Naomi Jackson made a mistake. Born in the tumultuous years following the American Revolution, she embraced change, excitement, and adventure. So when the Devil Bill Williams swaggered into town, she launched into his arms, determined that her love for him could overcome all obstacles. It couldn't. Now she has two young children, a life of misery, and a hopeless, desperate desire to escape. Then David Oxendine arrives for a Christmas visit - and things will never be the same. * * * Across the River - an 1800s Black / Native American Novella is the first in a series of novellas about Naomi Jackson's heartfelt, challenging life. These stories are based loosely on author Lisa Shea's real-life ancestor, Naomi Jackson, who was born in 1784 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Naomi's father had been taken from Northern Ireland as a child, while her mother was mixed-blood black, Lumbee, and Irish. Each novella has a cliff-hanger ending, much like Naomi's life. All author's proceeds from the Naomi Jackson series benefits local battered women's shelters. An important note for readers of my various series. Normally my content is quite "clean" with little to no swearing, violence, or physical intimacy. With this being based on the immense hardships my ancestor struggled through, I wanted to be authentic to the issues she rose above. This book therefore includes period-appropriate harsh language as well as several scenes of conflict. I gave a great deal of thought to including these and feel they are necessary to fully convey the trials she overcame. I apologize to those who feel uncomfortable reading that style of material. Please feel free to contact me at my website if you have any questions or comments - I thrive on your feedback.

Kathy Taylor had weathered eight rough years as a black female police officer in Boston - but enough was enough. She turned in her badge, moved up north, and set up shop as a private investigator in historic Salem, Massachusetts. Now she's surrounded by Wiccans and herbalists, by crystal shops and psychic pizza-deliverymen. And her first client has just stepped in the door. Black Cat Vols. 21-31 contains the third set of ten short stories in the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mysteries series. These books are: The Dark, Gratitude, The Bride, The Letter, The Costume, The Idols, Memory, The Fright, The Curtains, The Question, and Halloween. This compilation of short stories totals 37,000 words. The short stories in this series are being written and loaded one a day from October 1 through October 31, 2014. All author's proceeds from this series benefit battered women's shelters. Lisa has lived in scenic Massachusetts since 1986, with only two brief forays out of state. One of Lisa's ancestors was Ann Foster, who died during the Salem Witch Trials. Ann Foster was a grandmother by that time and sacrificed herself to protect her daughter and granddaughter. Ann had been born in England, came over in 1635, and was 75 by the time of the trials. Salem reached its dark depths during those trials from 1692-1693 - but since then has healed, blossomed, and shines. It now features the amazing Peabody Essex Museum, a plethora of gorgeous historic architecture, and a beautiful coastline. It's well worth a visit. If you can't go in person, take a virtual trip through Lisa's first-hand descriptions!

Morgan's life was settling into place with the gentle ease of a heron coming in for a landing on a still Massachusetts lake. Jason, the man she loved, was a serene presence in her world. Their evenings of kayaking on Manchaug Pond were the perfect counterpoint to her days writing and maintaining an online presence. The world was in balance. And then, in the shadowy depths behind Sutton's long-abandoned drive-in, Morgan stumbles across a shallow grave holding the skeletal body of a young woman. How long had the girl lain there? Why had nobody reported her missing? The only clue to the girl's identity is a beeswax Santa figurine, one of the first prototypes created by the artisans at Vaillancourt Folk Art. The trail delves into a world of prejudice and jealousy, of shattered dreams and lost hopes. Through it all, Morgan and Jason steadfastly hold to their vision - that they can at last bring justice and peace to this one girl's memory. All author's proceeds of this series benefit battered women's shelters. Birch Blackguards is the second novel in the award-winning Sutton Massachusetts Mystery series. It is followed by Cedar Conundrums. All novels in the Sutton Massachusetts Mystery series are written in a boots-on-the-ground, chapter-a-day format. On August 1st, author Lisa Shea went to the Sutton drive-in, and then that evening she wrote up the actual sights and sounds of that visit. That was Chapter One. The same process held true for each subsequent day and location. By August 31st the book was laid out. Each book captures a moment in time; as a whole the series shows the progression of events, news, and nature over the years. Lisa has lived in Sutton for nearly two decades and strives to craft stories which transport readers to her beautiful town. She offers a glimpse into Sutton's combination of centuries-old history and a modern, sliced-through-by-a-busy-highway existence. Lisa visits the actual locations mentioned in the story, experiences the atmosphere, and then infuses those rich colors, trilling bird-songs, and pungent fragrances into her story in a richly descriptive manner reminiscent of Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Then toss in an ample seasoning of local culinary delights, and this is the world of the Sutton Massachusetts Mystery Series!

We know the value of eating fresh, healthy food. We know how wonderful it is to pluck a fresh apple off a tree and to eat it without pesticides, without processing, and without added sugar. The philosophy of juicing and smoothies is to appreciate those natural flavors that exist all around us. Draw in the bounty of the nutrients and fiber that our world provides for our sustenance. It's good both to incorporate natural foods into your daily diet and also to occasionally do a cleanse. A cleanse allows your body to free itself of allergens and toxins and to start fresh. It's like rebooting your computer to cleanse out any memory issues which may have cropped up. Version Note: This is an early release of this smoothie / juicing ebook. It currently has 19 recipes in it. Please email me and let me know your favorite fruits and veggies. I will then create custom recipes using those flavors. I'll both email them to you and add them to the book.
