Santa Claus, as a baby, is found in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World (a supreme immortal), and placed in the care of the lioness Shiegra; but thereupon adopted by the Wood Nymph, Necile. Upon reaching young adulthood, Claus is introduced by Ak to human society, wherein he sees poverty and difficulties. Because he cannot reside in Burzee as an adult, he settles in the nearby Laughing Valley of Hohaho, where the immortals regularly assist him, and Necile gives him a little cat named Blinky. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is a classic children's book, written by L. Frank Baum, the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

128,95 kr. An imaginative work first published in 1902, L. Frank Baum's "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" tells the story of Claus, an orphaned boy raised by various immortal creatures in an enchanted forest. When he reaches adulthood, Claus is told to live among mortals; he is disheartened initially by poverty, war, and other negative aspects of humanity. He becomes well-known for his kindness to children, and this enthusiasm leads to the invention of the first toys. Claus eventually makes it his life's mission to bring joy to children, and this unfolds into an entertaining explanation of many Christmas traditions, including the hanging of stockings, Christmas trees, and gift-giving. After a lifetime of generosity the immortal creatures who raised him must consider whether Claus is worthy of immortality so that he may continue to bring joy into the lives of children. "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" illustrates the depth of Baum's skill as an author of children's literature.

328,95 kr. The story begins when the Scarecrow goes to search for his family roots and discovers that he is the Long Lost Emperor of the Silver Island -- and how he was rescued and brought back to Oz by Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion. Really! In another life, the Scarecrow was the Long Lost Emperor of the Silver Island. . . . Maybe he was. Who knows? Maybe not. But in retrospect, this is the first Oz book that actually shows us death, albeit of a peculiar sort: before the Scarecrow was reincarnated as the fluff-headed fellow we all know and love, he was the Emperor of Silver Island. Which was underground. -- Exactly beneath that cornfield where Dorothy first found him. But there are pictures of the place and the pictures don't look dark enough to be set in a kingdom made of caves. . . . Hrrrm.

143,95 kr. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (1902) is a children's book by L. Frank Baum. Although less popular than his influential Wizard of Oz series-fourteen novels that inspired the classic 1939 film-The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus has been adapted as a graphic novel and into multiple animated films. A sequel short story, "A Kidnapped Santa Claus," appeared in 1904.Discovered as a baby in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World, Santa Claus is taken to be raised by Necile the Wood Nymph. After a peaceful childhood, Claus is introduced to human society. Horrified by the brutality and poverty of everyday life, Claus begins making toys in the Laughing Valley of Hohaho, eventually enlisting the help of the local Ryls in painting his elaborate carvings. As his toys gain in popularity, the evil Awgwas hatch a plan to steal them. Determined to bring joy to the children of the world, however, Claus never gives up on his plan to deliver his gifts. To help expand his operation, Claus employs two willing deer, who can help on only one night each year. Settling on Christmas Eve, they prepare for their very first journey.Filled with rich, detailed layers of fantasy from the mind of L. Frank Baum, The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is a unique take on a timeless story of love and generosity. Long overshadowed by the Wizard of Oz series, Baum's children's book is required reading for those who refuse to let life lose its flavor of fantasy. This edition of L. Frank Baum's The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is a classic of children's literature reimagined for modern readers. 158,95 kr. First published in 1904, "A Kidnapped Santa Claus" by L. Frank Baum, the author of The Wizard of Oz, describes the action of some uncommon events in the land of Santa. Not far from the Laughing Valley where Santa and all his magical helpers live, and beyond the Forest of Burzee, there stands a huge mountain that contains the Cave of Demons. Each demon has a specialty: Selfishness, Envy, Hatred, Malice, and Repentance. Because the promise of Santa puts all girls and boys on their best behavior, the demons have hardly any visitors to their caves. In order to remedy their dismal foot traffic, they conspire to kidnap Santa! But oh! even when it looks as if the demons might win, one can never underestimate the power of devoted (and magical!) friends. Adapted by Alex Robinson, author of several graphic novels, the action and menace of the tale will be enhanced and lightly spoofed. It seems a most appropriate treatment of Baum's work -- he was an author who often let his profound and unsettling meanings roil beneath the surface of his otherwise fanciful stories."A Kidnapped Santa Claus" is a Christmas-themed short story written by L. Frank Baum, famous as the creator of the Land of Oz it has been called "one of Baum's most beautiful stories" and constitutes an influential contribution to the mythology of Christmas."A Kidnapped Santa Claus" was first published in the December 1904 edition of The Delineator, the women's magazine that would print Baum's Animal Fairy Tales in the following year. ¿The magazine text was "admirably illustrated" with "pen drawings of marked originality"by Frederick Richardson, who would illustrate Baum's Queen Zixi of Ix in 1905."A Kidnapped Santa Claus" was published two years after Baum's The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (1902), and shares its mythological cosmos: in the story as in the novel, Santa lives in the Laughing Valley on the border of the Forest of Burzee, and is assisted by knooks, ryls, fairies, and pixies. In modern editions the two works, novel and story, are sometimes published together.Though the short story has strong similarities with the novel, it has been interpreted as presenting "a less rosy view" of the world, in that it shows elements of evil as fundamental to existence and ineradicable.

208,95 kr. The Last Egyptian (1908) is a novel by L. Frank Baum. Although he is more widely known as the author of the Land of Oz series, Baum also used several pseudonyms to make forays into more conventional fiction for adults. The Last Egyptian, published anonymously, is a story of corruption, betrayal, romance, and adventure. It was adapted into a 1914 silent film by Baum and J. Farrell MacDonald, an influential and prolific figure in early American cinema. "'I regret,' said he, with mock politeness, 'that I have never before heard of your great forefather.' 'But why should you?' asked the Egyptian. 'You are, I suppose, one of those uneasy investigators that prowl through Egypt in a stupid endeavor to decipher the inscriptions on the old temples and tombs. You can read a little-yes; but that little puzzles and confuses you.'" Traveling across Egypt alone, English Egyptologist Winston Bey encounters an interesting local named K¿ra. According to the young man, he is the descendant of Ahtka-R¿, a powerful advisor the Rameses II. Although he questions the truth of this claim, Winston enlists K¿ra's help. Back home, K¿ra cares for his ailing grandmother Hatatcha, who reveals a life-changing secret upon her deathbed: he is the grandson of Lord Roane, a powerful Englishman who abandoned her while she was pregnant. From then on, K¿ra swears to exact revenge on the man and his family. Before she dies, she shows him the way to their family's ancient treasure, a horde of jewels and priceless artifacts with which he will fund his plot. While The Last Egyptian is far from the fantasy and fairy tale style most of Baum's readers adore him for, it remains an entertaining work of adventure fiction for devoted fans of the Oz series and newcomers alike. This edition of L. Frank Baum's The Last Egyptian is a classic of American literature reimagined for modern readers.
