I samarbejde med Ny Carlsbergfondet lancerer Informations Forlag serien Bibliotek for ny kunstteori - en række oversættelser af international kunst- og kulturteori. Grænserne mellem kunstarterne er blevet lige så porøse som grænserne mellem kunst og ikke-kunst. Det stiller kunstteorien over for en enorm udfordring. For hvad definerer kunsten, når den ikke længere bestemmes af de gamle genrer? Hvordan kan man stadig foretage en fornuftig sammenligning mellem værker og bedømme deres kvalitet? Og hvad betyder alt dette for kunsthistorien? Hvad følger af destabiliseringen af grænsen mellem kunst og virkelighed?Og kan man tale om en kunstens politik? Juliane Rebentisch (f. 1970) er professor i filosofi og æstetik og forfatter til flere bøger, hvoraf Samtidskunstens teori er den første i dansk oversættelse. I 2017 modtog hun Lessing-prisen som den første kvinde, siden den blev givet til Hannah Arendt i 1959. In recent years, debates surrounding the concept of art have focused in particular on installation art, as its diverse manifestations have proven to be incompatible with the modern idea of aesthetic autonomy. Defenders of aesthetic modernism repudiated installation-based work as no longer autonomous art, whereas advocates of aesthetic postmodernism abandoned the concept of aesthetic autonomy altogether. Juliane Rebentisch asserts that installation art does not, as is often assumed, dispute aesthetic autonomy per se, and rather should be understood as calling for a fundamental revision of this very concept. Aesthetics of Installation Art thus proposes a new understanding of art as well as of its ethical and political dimension.
