Metabolic syndrome is a problem of concern to clinicians and many physicians and researchers. It is not a single disease, but an association of several health problems such as hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus that can appear simultaneously or sequentially in the same individual. To describe the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its components in the adult population, as well as the clinical and evolutionary characteristics of this disease in patients discharged from the "Saturnino Lora" Provincial Hospital of Santiago de Cuba.

Não se trata de uma doença única, mas sim de uma associação de vários problemas de saúde - hipertensão arterial, obesidade, dislipidémia e diabetes mellitus - que podem ocorrer simultânea ou sequencialmente no mesmo indivíduo. Descrever a prevalência da síndroma metabólica e dos seus componentes na população adulta, bem como as características clínicas e evolutivas desta doença em pacientes que tiveram alta do Hospital Provincial "Saturnino Lora" de Santiago de Cuba.

Non si tratta di una singola malattia, ma di un'associazione di diversi problemi di salute - ipertensione, obesità, dislipidemia e diabete mellito - che possono manifestarsi contemporaneamente o in sequenza nello stesso individuo. Descrivere la prevalenza della sindrome metabolica e delle sue componenti nella popolazione adulta, nonché le caratteristiche cliniche ed evolutive di questa malattia nei pazienti dimessi dall'Ospedale Provinciale "Saturnino Lora" di Santiago de Cuba.

Das Metabolische Syndrom ist ein Problem, das Klinikern und vielen Ärzten und Forschern Sorgen bereitet. Es handelt sich dabei nicht um eine einzelne Krankheit, sondern um einen Zusammenschluss mehrerer Gesundheitsprobleme - Bluthochdruck, Fettleibigkeit, Dyslipidämie und Diabetes mellitus -, die bei ein und derselben Person gleichzeitig oder nacheinander auftreten können. Describir la prevalencia del síndrome metabólico y sus componentes en la población adulta, así como las características clínicas y evolutivas de esta enfermedad, de pacientes egresados en el Hospital Provincial ¿Saturnino Lorä de Santiago de Cuba.

A non-observational quasi-experimental intervention study was carried out with the objective of increasing the knowledge of mothers about the relationship between environmental conditions and the appearance of diarrheal diseases in children under 5 years of age, belonging to the Family Doctor's Office No. 16 of the Frank País García Teaching Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, during the period from January 1, 2020 - December 30, 2021. The universe consisted of all mothers of children under 5 years of age belonging to the clinic, for a total of 35 patients. With this intervention, it was possible to raise the mothers' level of knowledge compared to that which existed at the diagnostic stage, thus constituting a very useful tool for the prevention of acute diarrheal diseases in the community.
