Jewish Ideals And Other Essays is a collection of essays written by Joseph Jacobs, a renowned Jewish scholar and historian. The book is a thoughtful exploration of Jewish ideals, values, and beliefs, as well as their impact on the world. Jacobs delves into various aspects of Jewish life, including the role of women, the concept of justice, and the importance of education. He also examines the relationship between Judaism and other religions, and the ways in which Jewish culture has influenced the wider world. Throughout the book, Jacobs draws on his extensive knowledge of Jewish history and tradition to provide a deep and insightful analysis of Jewish thought and practice. This book is an essential read for anyone interested in Jewish culture and history, as well as those seeking a deeper understanding of the values and ideals that have shaped the Jewish people over the centuries. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - Who says that English folk have no fairy-tales of their own? The present volume contains only a selection out of some 140, of which I have found traces in this country. It is probable that many more exist. A quarter of the tales in this volume, have been collected during the last ten years or so, and some of them have not been hitherto published. Up to 1870 it was equally said of France and of Italy, that they possessed no folk-tales. Yet, within fifteen years from that date, over 1000 tales had been collected in each country. I am hoping that the present volume may lead to equal activity in this country, and would earnestly beg any reader of this book who knows of similar tales, to communicate them, written down as they are told, to me, care of Mr. Nutt. The only reason, I imagine, why such tales have not hitherto been brought to light, is the lamentable gap between the governing and recording classes and the dumb working classes of this country - dumb to others but eloquent among themselves. It would be no unpatriotic task to help to bridge over this gulf, by giving a common fund of nursery literature to all classes of the English people, and, in any case, it can do no harm to add to the innocent gaiety of the nation.

The Celtic roots of Irish folklore are enriched with Nordic legend and colour. Here gathered in this collection are tales of giants and warriors, of old hags and fair maidens, and of the boyhood of the great hero Fionn Mac Uail (Finn MacCool).

One of the great nineteenth-century folklorists, Joseph Jacobs collected stories from oral sources and made scholarly notes on their origin, but he deliberately recorded them in a plain and direct style which he thought suitable for children and which makes them 'supremely tellable'.
