298,95 kr. The first British Jewish chaplain, Reverend Francis Cohen, was appointed in 1892 and ministered in Britain. It was the creation of Reverend Michael Adler, DSO, for commissioned Jewish chaplains to serve alongside soldiers in the field in wartime. At the age of 46, from 1915, Adler spent over three years on the Western Front. Twenty Jewish chaplains served with the British Army in the First World War, and fifty-six Army and RAF chaplains, including twelve locally recruited in mandate Palestine, in the Second. They served in many of the vast theatres of both wars, travelling huge distances in search of widely dispersed Jewish soldiers. Jewish chaplaincy consolidated the integration of a minority faith into the British armed forces. This ground-breaking contribution to British, Jewish, religious and military history is based upon years of research in Victorian archives, military records and family papers. Here, Lewis reveals the colourful and untold story of the British Jewish ministry at war, as well as of its military service in peacetime. It is the story too of the many Jewish soldiers who, rarely if ever seeing a chaplain, brought each other such religious solace as they might.

1.693,95 kr. Dental implants refer to the surgical components which interface with the bone of the skull or jaw in order to support a dental prosthesis. Dental implants function through a biological process known as osseointegration, wherein certain substances such as Titanium, form a bond with the bone. The success of implant dentistry procedures depend on various factors, like the drugs used to assist in osseointegration, health of the person and the health of the tissues present in the mouth. The implant can be either removable or fixed. Major types of implants are small diameter implants, implant supported bridge, implant-supported overdenture and single tooth implant restoration. This book discusses the fundamentals as well as modern approaches of implant dentistry. It elucidates new techniques and their applications in a multidisciplinary manner. As this field is emerging at a rapid pace, the contents of this book will help the readers understand the recent advances in this field.

1.693,95 kr. Implant dentistry is a procedure in which the roots of the tooth are replaced with metal screwlike posts, and missing or damaged teeth are replaced with artificial teeth that function and look similar to the real ones. The main benefit of the implants is that they provide support for the new teeth during bone healing because it requires time for the bone to heal tightly around the implant. They are surgically placed in the jawbone so that they can serve as the roots of the missing teeth. Titanium is present in the implants that fuses with the jawbone and doesn't let the implant slip. This book is a compilation of chapters that discuss the most vital concepts and emerging trends in the field of implant dentistry. It presents this complex subject in the most comprehensible and easy to understand language. This book attempts to assist those with a goal of delving into this field.

- Literary Sites of Memory
683,95 kr. This book analyses representations of the Algerian War of Independence (1954-62) in the literary output of French authors of Algerian origin, problematising the extent to which these literary `sites of memory' provide appropriate spaces of consensus for hitherto competing memories of the war.

204,95 kr. This play, set in 1984, concerns five young soldiers, among them veterans of the Northern Ireland troubles - who are killing nothing but time in a Military Hospital ward. Fired by the author's anger at the Army's neglect of its wounded heroes, the play is a surprisingly tender and perceptive work.

Someone else later observed that "e;any technologist with sufficient knowledge is indistinguishable from a magician. "e; With that in mind, what you have in your hands right now is a book on magic. However, for as long as I've known the author of this book, Jonathan Lewis (some 11 years according to my research on Google going back over the newsgroup archives), he has never been content to accept "e;magic. "e; He wants to know why something happens the way it does. So, fundamentally, his book is all about understanding: understand v. understood, (-std) understanding, understands 1. To perceive and comprehend the nature and significance of 2. To know thoroughly by close contact or long experience with More precisely, it is all about understanding the Oracle cost based optimizer (CBO), how it works, and why it does what it does. Jonathan conveys to us his understanding of the Oracle CBO through practice and example, and with this understanding, with this knowledge, new options and solutions become available. Put simply, the Oracle CBO is a mathematical model; you feed it inputs (queries, statistics), and it produces outputs (query plans). In order to use the CBO successfully, it is critical that you understand what these inputs are and how the CBO uses them.
