- How True Conversion Happens
288,95 kr. "At all costs, read the Religious Affections!" - John Piper The progression sketched in this little piece on a monumental spiritual work is important. When we encounter a great and holy God in all His beauty, we are stirred to live holy lives. So many of us want to live vibrantly before God, to experience the "fullness of joy" spoken of in Psalm 16:11. So, we make some resolutions, grit our teeth, and resolve to pray more and sin less. Religious Affections lays out the cornerstone of Christian thought of the mid-18th century. Impossible to ignore, Religious Affections demands a response. No one can read it and be unchanged. The level of discipleship it asks is shocking to modern readers, but ultimately necessary for our salvation. Religious Affections is a work by Jonathan Edwards now brought to you in this new edition of the timeless classic.

Edwards argues that Christians have a responsibility to be good citizens and to work for the common good, while also remaining faithful to their Christian principles.Overall, Apollos, Growth In Grace, The Golden Censer, The Christian Citizen offers a rich and varied exploration of Christian life and faith, drawing on biblical examples and theological insights to provide practical guidance for believers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. 118,95 kr. The Freedom of the Will is a classic work by Christian pastor and writer Jonathan Edwards. Published in 1754 as a response to the teaching of Arminian pastor Daniel Whitby, the book examines the nature of mankind's will and the providential will of God. Starting with Romans 9:16, "So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy" Edwards argues for a traditional Calvinistic view of the work of salvation. Alacrity Press is proud to republish this Christian classic that is as relevant today as when it was first published.

330,95 - 471,95 kr. And again, another benefit that such trials are of to true religion, is, that they purify and increase it. They not only manifest it to be true, but also tend to refine it, and deliver it from those mixtures of that which is false, which encumber and impede it; that nothing may be left but that which is true. They tend to cause the amiableness of true religion to appear to the best advantage, as was before observed; and not only so, but they tend to increase its beauty, by establishing and confirming it, and making it more lively and vigorous, and purifying it from those things that obscured its luster and glory.

- Jonathan Edwards' Timeless Sermons on Revival of Souls
118,95 kr. Jonathan Edwards (October 5, 1703 - March 22, 1758) was a revivalist preacher, philosopher, and Congregationalist Protestant theologian. Like most of the Puritans, he held to the Reformed theology. His colonial followers later distinguished themselves from other Congregationalists as "New Lights" (endorsing the Great Awakening), as opposed to "Old Lights" (non-revivalists). Edwards is widely regarded as "one of America's most important and original philosophical theologians." Edwards' theological work is broad in scope, but he was rooted in Reformed theology, the metaphysics of theological determinism, and the Puritan heritage. Recent studies have emphasized how thoroughly Edwards grounded his life's work on conceptions of beauty, harmony, and ethical fittingness, and how central The Enlightenment was to his mindset. Edwards played a critical role in shaping the First Great Awakening, and oversaw some of the first revivals in 1733-35 at his church in Northampton, Massachusetts. Edwards delivered the sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," a classic of early American literature, during another revival in 1741, following George Whitefield's tour of the Thirteen Colonies. Edwards is well known for his many books, The End For Which God Created the World, The Life of David Brainerd, which inspired thousands of missionaries throughout the 19th century, and Religious Affections, which many Reformed Evangelicals still read today. Edwards died from a smallpox inoculation shortly after beginning the presidency at the College of New Jersey (Princeton). He was the grandfather of Aaron Burr, third Vice President of the United States.

88,95 - 118,95 kr. Jonathan Edwards was born October 5, 1703, in what is now South Windsor, Conn., a part of the parish then known as "Windsor Farmes." His father, the Rev. Timothy Edwards, the minister of the parish, a Harvard graduate, was reputed a man of superior ability and polished manners, a lover of learning as well as of religion; in addition to his pastoral duties, he fitted young men for college, and his liberal views of education appear in the fact that he made his daughters pursue the same studies these youths did. His mother, a daughter of the Rev. Solomon Stoddard, the minister of Northampton, is said to have resembled her distinguished father in strength of character and to have surpassed her husband in the native vigor of her mind.
