A complete and unabridged edition of President John Taylor's work "The Government of God." A re-typeset edition of the First Edition, with the original page numbers added to the text in [ ]. Comes with an Index made specifically for this edition."There are two kinds of rule on the earth... [and] there is a very striking difference between the two, and the comparison is certainly not creditable to man... In God's government there is perfect order, harmony, beauty, magnificence, and grandeur; in the government of man, confusion, disorder, instability, misery, discord, and death. In the first, the most consummate wisdom and power are manifested; in the second, ignorance, imbecility, and weakness. The first displays the comprehension, light, glory, benificence, and intelligence of God; the second, the folly, littleness, darkness, and incompetency of man. The contemplation of the first elevates the mind, expands the capacity, produces grateful reflections, and fills the mind with wonder, admiration, and enlivening hopes; the contemplation of the second produces doubt, distrust, and uncertainty, and fills the mind with gloomy apprehensions. In a word, the one is the work of God, and the other that of man."- JOHN TAYLOR -

John Taylor (1808-1887) was an English religious leader who served as the third president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1880 to 1887. He is the only president of the LDS Church to have been born outside of the United States. Taylor was converted by Parley P. Pratt on a mission to Toronto in 1836 and became an Apostle two years later. He spent much of his presidency evading arrest on charges of "unlawful cohabitation" and died while still in hiding. Mediation and Atonement (1882) is one of the few works of theology written by a sitting President of the LDS Church. It serves as Taylor's of the preeminent role of the Son of God in the salvation of humankind; in it, he assembles scriptural passages pertaining to Christ's Atonement and offers a commentary on their meaning. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).

The Swiss poet, Pierre Chappuis, and his translator, John Taylor - a native Iowan and an accomplished a poet in his own right - combine to create a dual narrative of time and place. The differences are obvious - Iowa and Switzerland are half a world apart in more ways than one - but the similarities are often surprising. The result is, as the University of Chester's Ian Seed observes, 'a reading experience like no other.'Pierre Chappuis lives in Neuchâtel where he has long taught. John Taylor is a contributing editor of The Fortnightly Review and lives in Angers.

  • - The Ancient, Of Four Thousand Years, Against The Modern, Of The Last Fifty Years, The Less Perfect Of The Two (1864)
    af John Taylor
    206,95 kr.

""The Battle of the Standards"" is a book written by John Taylor in 1864 that explores the conflict between ancient and modern standards. The book argues that the ancient standards, which have been in use for over four thousand years, are superior to the modern standards that have only been in use for the last fifty years. Taylor contends that the ancient standards are less prone to error and more reliable than their modern counterparts. He also suggests that the modern standards are less perfect than the ancient ones, and that they are often based on flawed reasoning and incomplete knowledge. Throughout the book, Taylor provides examples of how the ancient standards have stood the test of time and remained relevant, while the modern standards have often failed to deliver on their promises. Overall, ""The Battle of the Standards"" is a thought-provoking exploration of the ongoing debate between ancient and modern standards, and it offers valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
