The ship's crew evacuate without them, so William, Elizabeth and their four sons (Fritz, Ernest, Jack and Franz) are left to survive alone. As the ship tosses about, William prays that God will spare them. After the shipwreck, the family is stranded on an island and have to work together to survive and make the island their new home. They had to learn how to grow their own food, build shelter, create clothes from animal skin, etc. They also did not have any contact with other people for many years so they had to make up new words for things that they didn't know about. The book is an amazing read and dives deep into the behavior humans show when living in solitude as a recluse.

They attempt to navigate the desolate shore but face looming danger and an unforeseen presence. A family venture turns into a survival effort when a ship is damaged during a tropical storm. A father, mother and four sons stumble across a small island that appears to be uninhabited. They set up camp, complete with makeshift housing, to protect against the elements. While exploring the territory, they gather food and other creature comforts. During their stay, the family is met with various challenges that will test their faith in God and each other. The Swiss Family Robinson is Johann David Wyss' literary masterpiece that's been passed down from generation to generation. 233,95 kr. "For many days we had been tempest-tossed...the raging storm increased in fury until on the seventh day all hope was lost.” From these dire opening lines, a timeless story of adventure begins. One family will emerge alive from this terrible storm: the Robinsons—a Swiss pastor, his wife, and four sons, plus two dogs and a shipload of livestock. Inspired by Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, this heartwarming tale portrays a family's struggle to create a new life on a strange and fantastic tropical island. There each boy must learn to utilize his own unique nature as their adventures lead to difficult challenges and amazing discoveries, including a puzzling message tied to an albatross's leg. But it is in the ingenuity and authenticity of the family itself, and the natural wonders of this exotic land that have made The Swiss Family Robinson, first published at the beginning of the nineteenth century, one of the most enduring and imitated stories of shipwreck and survival.
