The first eight chapters contain a summary of the elements of faith that Paul purposed to teach all believers to help them obey and live the truth. The first eight chapters of his letter to the Romans are discussed in detail with a view to aiding those who read Chasing Truth to find the truth they earnestly seek. Joel Zao, the pen name of Joel Butler, discovered his calling to teach Christian truths upon separation from a brief tour as a U.S Air Force pilot in 1972. Even though Joel's flying career was of short duration, he participated in numerous world-wide deployments and warzone aircraft delivery assignments in South Vietnam and Thailand. Joel enjoyed an active business career in real estate, mortgage brokerage, and title insurance. He founded and managed a title insurance company that was sold to a national firm in 2001 as he remained on staff as consultant until retirement in 2007. Joel and Bette, Joel's life-long companion since college, and faithful partner who left a successful teaching career to join Joel in business, have two children. Their son, Brett, lives with his wife Glenda, and their two children, Chase and Nicole in Orlando, Florida. Their daughter, Shannon, resides with her daughter, Renee, in Destin, Florida. Teaching bible truth is Joel's passion. He believes that diligent study will reward anyone who "chases truth". When completing a three year weekly study series on Paul's letter to the Romans, Joel was encouraged by the group members to place the discoveries of their discussions in print. That is how Chasing Truth evolved. Our joint prayer is that God will open His Word to all who join us in this quest.

Believers hear a version of the gospel presented by a spokesperson of God, primarily from evangelists and preachers. The principal goal of the message is to save the sinner from the prospect of an eternal hell and transfer the new believer into the future hope of heavenly everlasting, holy bliss. As for Israel, in this simplified version, salvation does not apply to the nation. After all, the common view is that Israelites forfeited their national future when they rejected the gospel and crucified the Lord of glory. If a Jewish believer is saved today, it is on the basis of acceptance of the common gospel message just like any other person. Accordingly, the common view is that the church is seen as replacing Israel in God's salvation plan by becoming the depository of the truth and the channel of God's grace to the world. This common view does not agree with the Paul's exposition concerning Israel penned in Romans 9, 10 and 11. Let us Chase Truth together and see what Paul does say about Israel, the nation of his heritage.
