288,95 kr. For more than 40 years, rugby league has embodied all the hopes and dreams, contradictions and tensions of life in the Sunshine State. The game speaks to Queenslanders'' sense of being the underdog and the outsider - a powerful undercurrent that sweeps through politics, business, the arts, and sport. The enduring appeal of State of Origin is that it allows Queensland to balance the scales, at least for 80 minutes. In Heartland, journalist Joe Gorman chronicles a tale of loss and rebirth - from the decline of the Brisbane Rugby League competition and North Queensland''s Foley Shield to the extraordinary rise of the Broncos and the Cowboys in the NRL. Weaving together stories of diehard supporters and game-changing players, from Arthur Beetson to Johnathan Thurston, this is a revealing account of Queensland''s coming of age, both on and off the field.

75,95 kr. When we change our thoughts, we change our lives. Think positively, live positively. We cannot change the past and we cannot change any other person. But we can change ourselves into a happier, more peaceful and content person. Most of our afflictions come from our thoughts, not actual events. Stop talking about your problems and start talking about your joys. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to be your best. Energy is contagious. Stick by people who energize you. You are going to be amazed at what you can accomplish once you begin to trust yourself. Handle the bad moments like the temporary setbacks they are. Maintain your poise and keep reaching for your happiness. Make tomorrow better.

118,95 kr. The Gloucester High Lions football team, for decades one of the premier athletic powerhouses in South Jersey, has fallen on hard times. A mysterious stranger, McGrogan, visits Gloucester right before football practices begin in August and makes a deal with a naïve young musician, Steve Oxley, that promises to restore the Lions to their former glory-but may cost Oxley his life and soul. Oxley tries to balance a budding romantic relationship with a moody artist with his newfound stature as the town's football hero. The romance is further complicated by the attention Oxley receives from a beautiful new girl at the high school. The thrill of high school athletic competition mingles with young love and the frightening dark arts practiced by McGrogan. Allegiances shift, the lines between hero and villain are blurred, and the small town rises to defend its honor. Nothing gets resolved until the final pages.

88,95 kr. A hard and bitter truth is that it is not possible to shield a loved one from the consequences of their actions. It is agonizing to watch someone suffering from the despair of addiction. Perhaps we understand the depths of their confusion from personal experience or perhaps we simply love them and want them to become healthy. To observe someone's self-destruction tears at our heart and soul. Our own feelings are in turmoil as we witness the downward spiral and we are sometimes misguided by our our own pain and emotional chaos to attempt to "save" them. We become so disoriented that we hope that if we say the right words or make the right phone call, someone else's addiction will subside. We become afraid that if we say the wrong words, their addiction will escalate and become worse. But neither scenario is plausible or true. We do not have the power to change another person. All the king's horses and all the king's men cannot help them unless they help themselves. People change when they understand on a deeply personal level the tough truth of their affliction. We can continue to love them and pray for their awakening. We can attend Nar-Anon meetings and begin to understand that addiction is a family disease and listen to the wisdom of others who have traveled the same sad road we find ourselves on. But we cannot change another person. We cannot ask another person to do our will. We can't control anyone except ourselves. That is a sad, frustrating and tragic truth but it remains the truth now and forever. Detach with love and work on making yourself healthier and more resilient. We didn't cause their addiction, we can't cure it, and we can't control it. We cannot do the work of recovery for someone we love. Maintain healthy boundaries, accept with humility that we can't alter the consequences of someone else's behavior, and work on maintaining your own peace of mind.

88,95 kr. Happiness is an inside job. It's an attitude more than a state of events. Happiness means practicing gratitude. It means realizing the only person we are ever capable of changing is ourself. We don't have to change anyone else because we shouldn't put our happiness in someone else's hands. Tighten your circle and walk away from people and places which are holding you back. You will feel lighter and more joyful immediately. Practice positive thinking and set a firm intention to remain happy each morning. And the only people we should ever try to "get even" with are those who have helped us. When our thoughts change for the better, our lives change for the better.

178,95 kr. Jesus told us that we would have trouble in this life, so it should not surprise us when we encounter events that require or test our resilience. Unfortunately, there is no easy formula for developing resilience without pain. The journey toward resilience is always messy and unpredictable, but the good news is that we do not have to travel by ourselves. In Resilience, Joe Gorman explores the resources of the Christian faith that can sustain us during difficult seasons, helping us gradually grow into the kind of people who can withstand life's temptations, trials, setbacks, and storms.
