Lady Susan Vernon is a widow who loves to manipulate and seduce men. Single, married, it's all the same to her. She has two goals--first to marry off her daughter to a man who has enough money to care for her, and second to marry someone even richer herself. The story unfolds in epistolary form, and is quite different from Jane Austen's other work. For example, Lady Susan is more than a match for any man she meets, she's not only beautiful and smart, but tends to seduce younger men--in Austen's novels, her heroines always go for older men. A very interesting change of pace, this novella was written before Sense and Sensibility. This Large Print Edition is presented in easy-to-read 16 point type.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a community in possession of an older single woman must marry her off. However little known the feelings or views of the single in question is unimportant-nor is it vital to determine if she already has family acting on her behalf: she is single, therefore, they must do their duty by her and see her to the marriage canopy." The Jewish community of Boxton, Vermont has a serious problem. Six serious problems, actually. Their names are Ariella, Yocheved, Shuli, Batsheva, Malca Dina and Liora. These young women aren't getting any younger. Fortunately, a local high school has just hired a young, eligible bachelor to serve as dorm counselor -- and he's brought his best friend along. Could it be that things are looking up for the single women of Boxton? Join the girls as they go through the ups and downs of traditional Jewish dating, otherwise known as "the Parsha", in this retelling of Jane Austen's classic novel.

  • - Jane Austen, A NOVEL about youthful hubris and the perils of misconstrued romance (Original Version)
    af Jane Austen
    153,95 kr.

Emma, by Jane Austen, is a novel about youthful hubris and the perils of misconstrued romance. The novel was first published in December 1815. As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively comedy of manners among her characters. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." In the first sentence she introduces the title character as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich." Emma is spoiled, headstrong, and self-satisfied; she greatly overestimates her own matchmaking abilities; she is blind to the dangers of meddling in other people's lives; and her imagination and perceptions often lead her astray. This novel has been adapted for several films, many television programs, and a long list of stage plays.Emma Woodhouse has just attended the wedding of Miss Taylor, her friend and former governess, to Mr Weston. Having introduced them, Emma takes credit for their marriage, and decides that she likes matchmaking. After she returns home to Hartfield with her father, Emma forges ahead with her new interest against the advice of Mr Knightley and tries to match her new friend Harriet Smith to Mr Elton, the local vicar. First, Emma must persuade Harriet to refuse the marriage proposal from Robert Martin, a respectable, educated, and well-spoken young farmer, which Harriet does against her own wishes. But Mr Elton, a social climber, thinks Emma is in love with him and proposes to her. When Emma tells him that she had thought him attached to Harriet, he is outraged. After Emma rejects him, Mr Elton leaves for a stay at Bath and returns with a pretentious, nouveau-riche wife, as Mr Knightley expected. Harriet is heartbroken and Emma feels ashamed about misleading her. Frank Churchill, Mr Weston's son, arrives for a two-week visit to his father and makes many friends. Mr Knightley suggests to Emma that while Frank is clever and engaging, he is also a shallow character. Jane Fairfax comes home to see her aunt, Miss Bates, and grandmother, Mrs Bates, for a few months, before she must go out on her own as a governess. She is the same age as Emma, but Emma has not been as friendly with her as she might. Emma envies her talent and is annoyed to find all, including Mrs Weston and Mr Knightley, praising Jane. The patronising Mrs Elton takes Jane under her wing and announces that she will find her the ideal governess post before it is wanted. Emma begins to feel some sympathy for Jane's predicament. Emma decides that Jane and Mr Dixon are mutually attracted, and that is why she has come home. She shares her suspicions with Frank, who met Jane and the Campbells at a vacation spot a year earlier, and he apparently agrees with her. Suspicions are further fueled when a piano, sent by an anonymous benefactor, arrives for Jane. Emma feels herself falling in love with Frank, but it does not last to his second visit. The Eltons treat Harriet badly, culminating with Mr Elton publicly snubbing Harriet at the ball given by the Westons in May. Mr Knightley, who had long refrained from dancing, gallantly steps in to dance with Harriet. The day after the ball, Frank brings Harriet to Hartfield, she having fainted after a rough encounter with local gypsies. Harriet is grateful, and Emma thinks this is love, not gratitude. Meanwhile, Mrs Weston wonders if Mr Knightley has taken a fancy to Jane but Emma dismisses that idea. When Mr Knightley mentions the links he sees between Jane and Frank, Emma denies them, while Frank appears to be courting her instead. He arrives late to the gathering at Donwell in June, while Jane leaves early. Next day at Box Hill, a local beauty spot, Frank and Emma continue to banter together and Emma insults Miss Bates.

Emma Woodhouse is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage. Nothing, however, delights her more than interfering in the romantic lives of others. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected. With its imperfect but charming heroine and its witty and subtle exploration of relationships, Emma is often seen as Jane Austen's most flawless work.

Perhaps as early as 1787, Austen began to write poems, stories, and plays for her own and her family's amusement. Austen later compiled "fair copies" these early works into three bound notebooks, now referred to as the "Juvenilia," containing pieces originally written between 1787 and 1793. (from Wikipedia) . The 2nd volume of juvenilia includes: * Love and Freindship * Lesley Castle * The History of England * A Collection of Letters * Scraps (The Female Philosopher, The First Act of a Comedy, A Letter from a Young Lady, A Tour through Wales, A Tale) . • - An Erotic Retelling of Jane Austen's Beloved Classic
    af Jane Austen
    213,95 kr.

PRIDE AND PUNISHMENT is an erotic retelling of a Jane Austen classic. Characters that you thought you knew...well, they're ready to reveal their secret selves. Mr. Darcy is a Dominant. Miss Elizabeth Bennet is submissive. Jane Bennet might be the only "handsome" woman in Meryton, but puppy-like Charles Bingley needs a Mistress. Mr. Darcy doesn't think Jane has what it takes and separates the couple. His growing lust leads Mr. Darcy to confess his desire to dominate Miss Elizabeth - a proposition that she mistakes for a proposal. Already accused of less-than-gentlemanlike behavior, Darcy must find a way to win the submissive heart of a woman who abhors him. Described as "Pride and Prejudice meets 50 Shades of Grey," Pride and Punishment is not your mother's Austen. This is a deliciously different BDSM erotic romance written for ages 18+. The original dialogue has been kept intact when possible. Passages modified to fit this retelling are rife with subtext and laden with innuendo. The basic timeline is essentially the same as Pride and Prejudice, but the characters populating the pages now include Darcy's bisexual cousin Hugh, his dominant Aunt Catherine/Mistress Cat, his "little" cousin Anne, his submissive sister Georgiana, kinky defiler-of-virgins George Wickham, lesbian switch Caroline Bingley, and militiamen who see more action in their bunks than out. This erotic Regency romance includes MF relationships, MFM ménage sexual congress, and BDSM activities and is written for adults only.
