This textbook describes for numerous scenarios how to use the structural properties of a system to simplify modelling, analysis or design tasks. The readers learn to extract structure graphs from diverse information and to solve problems of systems and control theory in a graph-theoretical way.The book explains numerous graph-theoretical representations of dynamical systems: Block diagrams for the decomposition of systems; Signal-flow graphs for the analysis of interconnected linear systems; Bayesian networks for dealing with probabilistic information; Inference graphs for knowledge-based problem solving; Automaton graphs for discrete-event systems; Circuit graphs for modelling electrical networks; Structure graphs to represent generic properties of linear systems; Flow networks for the analysis of transportation systems; Communication graphs of networked control systems; Bipartite graphs for fault diagnosis; Random coupling graphs to use the small-world property. With 114 examples, 118 exercises and MATLAB scripts.

423,95 kr. The original motivation to investigate interconnected systems and decentralized control resulted from the impossibility to connect geographically distributed systems by reliable communication networks three decades ago. Energy or water distribution networks have been studied to answer the important question: Which control tasks can be accomplished by local feedback controllers that have to satisfy strict structural constraints. The revival of interest in such systems in recent years came with the availability of modern digital communication networks. The question is now: Which information links are necessary to get a satisfactory performance of the overall system. The results on decentralized control can help to answer it by showing the capabilities and the limits of local feedback structures. This reprint of a monograph gives a survey of the analysis methods of large-scale systems and the design methods for decentralized controllers. Among others, it shows under which conditions control problems like the stabilization of composite systems can be solved by a set of isolated control stations.

1.030,95 - 1.752,95 kr. This book presents model-based analysis and design methods for fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control. Architectural and structural models are used to analyse the propagation of the fault through the process, test fault detectability and reveal redundancies that can be used to ensure fault tolerance.
