Roman ambition created a lethal horror almost 2000 years ago. Since then it has been waiting - starving, hating and utterly insane... Julie Harrison is a smart, dedicated British university student. Together with her over-protective brother Michael and his jealous girlfriend, she joins a caving trip into Maar's Maw in the Pennines. However, adventure turns to terror when the team become trapped deep underground - in the lair of an ancient behemoth. Amid the chaos and panic, Julie finds the courage to lead the survivors. She knows they must work together, to try to evade the beast that now stalks them and to discover a way of escape. Their journey reveals evidence of ancient conflicts and slaughter, and clues to how their hunter was created. As days pass, they become exhausted, sick and hungry. They suffer the harrowing loss of friends to the monstrosity's ravenous attacks. Hope ebbs away... How far will friendship take the survivors? What extremes will their darker sides take them to?Can anyone escape this subterranean hell and the relentless wrath of the God Of War? Review by Sefina Hawke for Readers' Favorite: God Of War by Ian Thompson is a suspense filled novel that will appeal most to an audience made up of a mix of mature young adults and adults who enjoy the idea of being scared out of their minds. God Of War portrays a horror that started back during the Roman occupation when one Gaius Pertinax wanted to find something more, something really special for the gladiators. What he brought about was a horror that still exists in modern times and is found by a group of cavers who are hunted by it.God Of War will make even the bravest reader quake in their shoes; it is a book best read during the day as reading it at night is likely to give nightmares. God Of War is extremely well written with each scene described in fluent language that transitions beautifully from one scene to the next. Ian Thompson offers multiple perspectives from different time periods and characters to really allow the reader to understand the horror, the events, as well as the characters themselves. Each character was well written; my favorite part was the beginning of the book that focuses on John, Mary, and Melissa. I really felt for all of them and was sadden by the tragedy of their lives. I finished God Of War feeling shaken and a bit worried about nightmares, but that is the mark of a good horror novel. 4/5(Link to Review: readersfavorite.com/book-review/god-of-war) "Gory, scary and totally unpredictable story. Ian Thompson is definitely one to watch."5/5 Review on Amazon UK by a Kindle Customer From other 5-Star Reviews for Ian Thompson: "...extremely well written and very dark... Late at night, a man is driving home through a hellish storm on a dark, secluded forest road. He's a vocalist and has just recorded his first ever album. It seems as if his life is finally about to turn around for the better... Until a creature lunges out in front of his car and he strikes it a glancing blow... Braking hard, the driver ventures into the rain to try to help the wounded beast. Yet the creature is no deer or other normal animal, it is a grotesque monstrosity. Pain sends the beast into a murderous rage... A nerve-shredding drama of pursuit, violence and suffering begins as the accident victim seeks revenge. The driver is unarmed and alone, rain-sodden and terrified. Can he survive this wrathful monster? 'Glancing Blow' is the first in the series of Short Horror Tales - quick reads written to captivate readers with thrills, chills and unexpected twists... So why not take a passenger seat in a car headed towards nightmarish terror? Reviews from this author's horror releases: "...thoroughly spooky, enticing and well written from start to finish.""...great... I could feel the fear..."(Glancing Blow - Short Horror Tales #1)"Great short story..."(Ignition Source - Short Horror Tales #4)"...well-written, descriptive and enthralling page-turner, that's not for the faint-hearted... The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat..."(God Of War)"...extremely well written and very dark. The author did a great job of creating a palpable sense of doom that surrounds the main character from the beginning, and then creating more tension and horror as the story went on..."(Into The Hole) Review from 'Home Grown Horror Reviews': Glancing Blow introduces us to a vocalist who's just made his big-ish break. After recording his first ever album, he's making the 300 mile drive back home. It's late at night, and the rain is coming down hard. Suddenly, something darts in front of his car, and he clips it with his bumper. Going back to check on the poor animal, he inadvertently throws himself into a frantic and brutal struggle for survival. Thompson shows true mastery of the short horror story. There is enough buildup to ensure that we actually care about the character and the situation, but the action begins quickly and lasts the duration of the story. The story is told in first person past tense, leading you to believe that our hero survives the ordeal. The narration can come across as a bit clinical at times, especially in certain descriptions. The overall vibe that the prose gives off is that the character is recounting his story for the record, after the fact. The panic and desperation felt in the moment sometimes bleeds through that detached tone, adding to the emotion of certain moments. Thompson has crafted a wildly imaginative antagonist unlike anything I've read before. The character's descriptions are very clear, leaving not much to the imagination. This could be construed as a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your own opinion. I think that the clear description adds to the idea that perhaps the main character is recording his story for law enforcement after the fact. Ian Thompson delivers exactly what he has promised- a quick, captivating read full of horror and thrills. The tense action and suspense of Glancing Blow make it incredibly hard to put down. Chances are, you'll run through this one in a single sitting. Thompson starts his Short Horror Tales series strongly, and I'm looking forward to continuing with the next story. The author did a great job of creating a palpable sense of doom that surrounds the main character from the beginning, and then creating more tension and horror as the story went on..."(Into The Hole) Review from 'Home Grown Horror Reviews': Ian Thompson's Hooker tells the tragic tale of the worst day of Nigel Fawson's life. He's lost his job, found his wife cheating on him, and discovered that his kid isn't even his. All he wants to do is drink himself into oblivion. In a shady part of town, the drunken Nigel is propositioned by the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. As uncharacteristic as it is for him, he decided to take her up on the offer and buy a night of fun. Before long, his night of fun turns into a night of terror when the woman isn't what she seems. As is par for Thompson's Short Horror Tales series, Hooker lays the groundwork with likable and relatable characters before ruthlessly punishing them. There is just enough set-up so that the reader is invested in Nigel and his troubles. This can be a tricky line to balance in a short story. Too much exposition and the reader is bored; too little and the reader just doesn't care. Once again, Thompson walks that tightrope with expertise. When the blood starts to splatter, Nigel's day gets really rough. Thompson has devised a brilliantly brutal creature to sic on his leading man. Creative and twisted, the monster is a total terror. This seems to be one of Thompson's strongest points; an ability to think up unique, awful monstrosities. Short and to the point, Hooker is an absolutely insane, blood-pumping ride. With just enough characterization and set up to bring Nigel fully to life, Thompson wastes no time getting to the horror. And once the horror starts to flow, it explodes like a firehose, utterly drenching poor Nigel till the last page. With a wicked cool monster and a page-turning climax, this is one Creature Feature you won't want to miss out on. (for full review refer: hghorror.wordpress.com/category/authors/thompson-ian/)

When a book collector buys an ancient diary, he has no idea that it contains a dark and macabre story... In 1861, Dr William Tomberton receives an urgent call from his old friend Police Inspector Evans. Lord Carmichael is dead - murdered in a way no one can understand. They examine the man's corpse - there are no signs of an assault, but the body has been hideously changed. Tomberton and Evans go to the Carmichael mansion, which remains as silent as a grave. No one has seen Lady Carmichael or the house staff. Two policemen who ventured inside never returned. There is no choice but to assemble a small team and investigate the building... In Carmichael's home, Tomberton, Evans and their two companions find more victims transformed to death by a malignant force. What kind of entity can have the power to restructure every part of a person, from their clothing and outside appearance... to all their internal organs? An awful brooding atmosphere fills the mansion - and the four investigators continue in dread of the abhorrent, lurking slayer. Also, the sight of what has happened to the mirrors almost shatters their courage. What is the entity inside the Carmichael mansion? How was it unleashed upon the household? A storm from hell itself? After a weekend stopover in the big city, the six passengers of a double-decker bus are on their way home at night. Maddie, their driver, is tough and experienced... but soon very out of her depth. Before they can reach the outskirts of the city, a rainstorm begins like no other Maddie has ever encountered... This rain is raw, searing acid. Just a drop on human skin is enough to inflict an agonising burn - and those people caught in the downpour suffer horrendously. Chaos consumes the streets as victims go wild from excruciating pain. Vehicles collide in the panic and the bloodshed escalates... The acid rain is attacking not only organic matter, but also plastics, rubber, metals, glass and other materials. It slowly eats through shelters - like buildings and vehicles - to devour the living prey inside. Maddie's bus becomes both a prison and a haven for the seven travellers. Escaping the storm is their only chance for survival. They flee through a landscape being transformed by a dark, liquid apocalypse... while their vehicle deteriorates and their nerves shred with terror... Working together, the travellers try to reinforce their mobile shelter and to overcome the harrowing ordeals forced upon them. But how long will the bus continue to run before it succumbs to the acid? Is there any hope left in this realm of torment and death? And what new horror awaits them... even more grotesque and appalling than the acid rain?
