323,95 kr. Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush is a collection of short stories written by Scottish author Ian Maclaren. The book was first published in 1894 and quickly became a bestseller, cementing Maclaren's place as one of Scotland's most beloved writers. The stories are set in the fictional town of Drumtochty, which is based on Maclaren's own childhood home in Perthshire. They offer a glimpse into the lives of the town's residents, who are mostly farmers and laborers. The stories are heartwarming and often humorous, but also deal with serious themes like poverty, illness, and death. The title of the book comes from a line in one of the stories, where a character describes the beauty of the Scottish countryside: ""Beside the bonnie brier bush, in the blooming heather, there's a song that rises up to the blue sky from the heart of Drumtochty."" Maclaren's writing is known for its vivid descriptions of rural life in Scotland, and his characters are often based on real people he knew.
