Published in 1875, Rent Veil was written by Scottish theologian and poet Horatius Bonar. Bonar's Rent Veil treats a variety of topics, most directly the atonement. The title refers to Christ and Christ's body. Bonar claims that without the broken ("rent") body of Christ, there would still be a barrier ("veil") between persons and God. With Christ's death, there is the possibility of the forgiveness of sins. In Bonar's interesting treatment of the atonement, he also makes some intriguing points regarding the relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament. Throughout, Bonar supports his points with liberal quotations from Scripture. The final third of his book provides an instructive call for believers. In it, Bonar extols believers to, and describes for them, the kinds of people God desires--worshipers, temples, priests, and kings. Despite being published over a hundred years ago, Bonar's prose is surprisingly up-to-date and easy to follow. For an interesting treatment of the atonement, one can do no better than Bonar's Rent Veil.

Your "turning" or "conversion" is only a beginning, and no more. It is not the whole journey; it is merely the first step. You are a disciple, that is, one who is under teaching; but your teaching, your discipleship, has only just begun. Your life is a book; it may be a bigger or smaller volume, but conversion is only the title page or the preface. The book itself remains to be written, and your years, weeks, and days are its chapters, pages, and lines. It is a book written for eternity; make sure that it is written well. It is a book for the inspection of enemies as well as friends; be careful of every word. It is a book written under the eye of God; let it be done reverently, not frivolously, but also without constraint or terror. For encouragement and help on this journey, please join me in diving into what the Bible says about fruitful Christian living. Make sure you start well, continue well, and end well. The Lord has ensured that you have all the instructions you'll need, if only you take the time to learn and apply them.List of Chapters:Ch. 1: Keep Your Eyes on JesusCh. 2: Keep Your Conscience CleanCh. 3: Hold Tightly to What You Have ReceivedCh. 4: Deal Honestly with YourselfCh. 5: Keep Company with God and with the People of GodCh. 6: Study the BibleCh. 7: Watch Your StepsCh. 8: Put Away Vanity and the Love of PraiseCh. 9: Watch Against SatanCh. 10: Beware of One-Sided TruthCh. 11: Do Something for GodCh. 12: Live with Anticipation for Christ's Return

The second book in the series following on from the bestselling Rainforest AdventuresChildren are fascinated with the natural world around them and with facts and information about animals that they have never seen. However often good nature programmes on T.V. or articles in magazines centre on evolution and completely ignore the Creator. Each story has a Bible verse and lesson for the reader to take away. Written by someone who spent his life in the Rainforest this book has the added benefit of being written by someone who has been there lived there and experienced the culture not just someone who has read the encyclopaedias.

  • - Introduction and Annotations by Carroll F. Burcham
    af Horatius Bonar

At the cross the everlasting righteousness is found; human, yet divine: provided for man, and presented to him by God, for relief of conscience and justification of life. On the one word, "It is finished" as on a heavenly resting-place, weary souls sat down and were refreshed. The voice from the tree did not summon them to do, but to be satisfied with what was done. Millions of bruised consciences there found healing and peace. (Dr. Bonar wrote a hymn "By the Cross" that included these words in verse 1: By the cross of Jesus standing, Love our straitened souls expanding, Taste we now the peace and grace! Health from yonder tree is flowing, Heav'nly light is on it glowing, From the blessed Suff'rer's face.)The belief of that finished work brought the sinner into favor with God; and it did not leave him in uncertainty as to this. The justifying work of Calvary was God's way, not only of bringing pardon, but of securing certainty. It was the only perfect thing which had ever been presented to God in man's behalf; and so peculiar was this perfection, that it might be used by man in his transactions with God, as if it were his own.

    af Horatius Bonar

Our desire is to minister to the saints in the consolation and admonition of the Lord. We would seek to bear their burdens, to bind up their wounds, and to dry up at least some out of their many tears. To comfort those who mourn is not only to act in obedience to the command, "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ"; it is to walk by the side of JESUS in His visits of mercy to His suffering saints on earth; nay, it is to be fellow-workers with the HOLY GHOST as the Church's Comforter in all her tribulations and distresses.

Horatius Bonar anticipates many of the questions that arise in the early months of discipleship and provides the answers. This short book was written over 100 years ago but deals with issues that still concern new believers today. The principles of Christian living do not change and so Bonar's advice is of permanent value. Horatius Bonar is best known today as a hymn writer. Many of his hymns are still used in worship. He was also an effective evangelist and a sensitive pastor. This experience is obvious throughout the book. 78,95 - 98,95 kr.

Most people know Horatius Bonar for his soul-searching hymns but he was also a respected author and had a strong concern for evangelisation and the onward life and witness of Christians. Bonar's pastoral books always address people realistically, there is no 'super spiritualism' here or an unattainable standard for the Christian life. Everyone can benefit from this book. Bonar explains that the way of peace, and the way of holiness, lay side by side. Peace may come first but the Spirit of peace Is the Spirit of holiness. You cannot say that you have peace whilst living with sin, you cannot say you have holiness if you are not consciously reconciled with God and fellow believers. Each chapter starts with a list of helpful scripture passages to set the scene for the ensuing discussion. Bonar deals with rebirth, the indwelling, of the Spirit, what gives us strength against sin, the power of the cross, the role of the law, the influence of the world, and a special section on Romans chapter seven.Bonar also helps us understand how concepts of holiness and spirituality are changed outside the Christian viewpoint. He shows the dangers of harsh orthodoxy, un-anchored idealism, mechanical devotion, superstition, self-righteous mortification, the sentimentalism of liberal theology and the woolly, warm dreams of Eastern pantheism.
