This book presents current trends in Mechanics of Time Dependent Materials. It covers a number of cutting-edge themes, such as characterization of linear and nonlinear mechanical behavior of viscoelastic materials and their composites, taking into consideration large deformations, low, moderate and large strain rates, as well as failure and fracture phenomena. The contributions are inspired by advanced applications in modern technologies, such as injection molding and extrusion.

This book examines new approaches for the estimation of errors in approximate theories. Numerical and analytical methods in mechanics often require the establishment of a set of basic equations, and various approaches exist to create approximate theories from them. The problem is that nobody knows the boundaries of the estimation of errors in approximate theories. This book presents new approaches to overcome this problem and to provide the reader with suitable methods for the relevant field, including a representation of different scientific schools and different countries. These new methods are helping to solve many problems not only in analytical Mechanics but also in Physics, Mathematics, and Civil Engineering.

The postgraduate seminar series on advanced structured materials is designed to facilitate teaching and informal discussion in a supportive and friendly environment. The seminar provides a forum for postgraduate students to present their research results and train their presentation and discussion skills. Furthermore, it allows for extensive discussion of current research being conducted in the wider area of advanced structured materials. Doing so, it builds a wider postgraduate community and offers networking opportunities for early career researchers. In addition to focused lectures, the seminar provides specialized teaching/overview lectures from experienced senior academics. The 2023 Postgraduate Seminar entitled "Advanced Structured Materials: Development - Manufacturing - Characterization - Applications" was held from 20th till 24th February 2023 in Barcelona. The presented postgraduate lectures had a strong focus on polymer mechanics, composite materials, and additive manufacturing.

The book is devoted to the retirement of Prof. Wilfried Becker¿a liber amicorum for a well-known specialist in the field of structural mechanics. Many excellent scientists from institutions around the world wrote their scientific chapters, stressing the Becker¿s influence to structural mechanics. Thus, this collection discusses a lot of important problems and applications of mechanics.

Das gut eingefuhrte Werk Ebene Flachentragwerke erscheint nun in der 2. Auflage. Ausgehend von einer Klassifikation der Modelle ebener Flachentragwerke und den Grundgleichungen der linearen Elastizitatstheorie werden zunachst systematisch die Gleichungen fur isotrope Scheiben und Platten abgeleitet. Dabei wird ein didaktisch einheitliches Konzept eingesetzt. Die Gleichungen werden in kartesischen Koordinaten, Polarkoordinaten und schiefwinkligen Koordinaten formuliert. In Erganzung der ersten Auflage wird auch eine Plattentheorie in koordinatenfreier Schreibweise behandelt, so dass der Leser einen leichteren Zugang zu modernen Konzepten der Formulierung von Flachentragwerkstheorien erhalt. Die Diskussion der Plattenmodelle nach Kirchhoff, Mindlin und von Karman zeigt die Moglichkeiten und Grenzen dieser Strukturmodelle.Fur schubstarre und schubelastische Platten mit kleinen Durchbiegungen wird auch anisotropes Materialverhalten einbezogen, und es werden die Strukturgleichungen der klassischen Laminattheorie und der Schubdeformationstheorie erster Ordnung angegeben. Es folgt ein kurzer Einblick in Theorien zur Analyse dreischichtiger Platten. Die Berucksichtigung vorgegebener Temperaturfelder erfolgt fur alle Plattenmodelle im Rahmen der entkoppelten Thermoelastizitat.Der Leser erhalt einen umfassenden Uberblick uber die Anwendung bedeutsamer Strukturmodelle ebener Flachentragwerke. Die nach Aufgabenklassen geordneten zahlreichen Beispiele konnen als Referenzlosungen zur Testung numerischer Verfahren genutzt werden. Die Aufnahme der sogenannten Reduktionsverfahren von Wlassow und Kantorowitsch soll ihre Leistungsfahigkeit fur die Ableitung einfacher und analytischer Naherungslosungen durch die Reduktion der Strukturgleichungen auf eindimensionale Formulierungen verdeutlichen.

This book gives an insight into the current developments in the field of continuum mechanics. Twenty-five researchers present new theoretical concepts, e.g., better inclusion of the microstructure in the models describing material behavior. The book introduces advanced theories for deformation, damage, and failure in materials. The overall continuum mechanical framework was marked out and added by creep and damage mechanics of materials at elevated temperatures. The time-dependent and time-independent models of cyclic plasticity for low cycle and thermomechanical fatigue life assessment were specified in a very special manner: instead of three-dimensional statements, only one-dimensional rheological models were discussed. Anisotropic plasticity during non-proportional loading and anisotropy of yield/failure criteria is more and more important in modern applications. It is showing how the limit states of materials can be estimated. In addition, the damage and failure of composite materials demonstrate the possibility to extend continuum mechanics to continuum damage mechanics of composite materials.
