When I wrote the poem, "Prop Me Up On The Leaning Side", I shared it with my cherished friends, Dean Lindsey, and his wife Carol. Dean, a wit extraordinaire, suggested a part of the poem's title should be the title of my next book since Dean and Carol are my unofficial caretakers. Thus, "Prop Me Up, Lord!" saw its first light.In my late 70s, handicapped, no longer driving and on a Quad-cane, I can sympathize with the leaning barn on the book's cover. Over the years I am sure it has been assailed with the slings and arrows of Mother Nature, as I have with the inevitable process of aging. My poems therefore are petitions, praise and thanksgiving to the Good Lord for being always at my side during my journey. And my journey has included my recent return to Christ. I have been blessed with a gift from God allowing me to pen these poems. My hope is that just one line of one poem may touch someone's heartstrings. If this happens, then I am rich beyond measure.

Henry W. Gurley of Houston, Texas, is one of America's greatest poets of this century. He has been writing poetry most of his life and has been published abroad and in the U.S. by various magazines, book publishers and companies. He has been a featured author among several venues, and continues to write at a voracious pace. In this particular volume, Gurley splits the book into two sections: one section with poetry about nature and one section about his experience with God. His poetry flows smoothly and graciously and will bless the reader with each line.In this editor's estimation, Gurley is the equivalent of a modern aged Robert Frost.

"In You Alone", the book''s title and lead poem, was inspired by Andre Rieu''s violin rendition of "You Raise Me Up". The other poetic endeavors were inspired by God Who has been most generous in handing me the words to my poems. For each poem I offer due praise to Him for His Gift.In 1988 I suffered a heart attack in Anchorage, Alaska while on a job assignment there. That event got my full attention. Disabled by the heart attack, I began writing novels and poetry, reflecting on the many gifts God had shared with me over the years. This attention-getting event has led me to publish three novels and seven books of poetry since that date.Poetry, in my opinion, is to be shared and should a line or two touch someone''s heartstrings, I am delighted. For my effort, God receives the honor and the glory which He so richly deserves.As you read the poems, perhaps in your daily devotionals, I trust that a line or two will touch your heartstrings as you meditate upon God''s Love and His Grace. The 84-year old author resides in Herriman, Utah. He was born in the tiny farm community of Ace, Texas, the ninth and youngest child of a sharecropping family. He graduated at the top of his class in Huntsville, Texas in 1955 and attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and Rice Institute (both now of University level).Other than his love of writing, he is an avid duplicate bridge player, having attained the rank of Ruby Life Master in January 2020.Though he now resides in Utah, he has remained a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, his home before moving to Utah three years ago.
