On Government By The Queen, And Attempted Government From The People is a political treatise written by Henry Drummond in 1842. The book explores the concept of government by the monarch versus government by the people, and argues that a balance between the two is necessary for a successful society. Drummond examines the historical development of monarchy and democracy, and argues that both forms of government have their strengths and weaknesses. He believes that a constitutional monarchy, where the monarch has limited power and is checked by a system of laws and a democratic parliament, is the best form of government. The book also critiques the idea of direct democracy, where the people have direct control over the government, arguing that it can lead to chaos and instability. Drummond suggests that representative democracy, where elected officials represent the people and make decisions on their behalf, is a more effective form of government. Overall, On Government By The Queen, And Attempted Government From The People is a thoughtful analysis of different forms of government and their strengths and weaknesses. It provides valuable insights into the ongoing debate about the role of monarchy and democracy in modern society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. I was staying with a party of friends in a country house during my visit to England in 1884. On Sunday evening as we sat around the fire, they asked me to read and expound some portion of Scripture. Being tired after the services of the day, I told them to ask Henry Drummond, who was one of the party. After some urging he drew a small Testament from his hip pocket, opened it at the 13th chapter of I Corinthians, and began to speak on the subject of Love. It seemed to me that I had never heard anything so beautiful, and I determined not to rest until I brought Henry Drummond to Northfield to deliver that address. Since then I have requested the principals of my schools to have it read before the students every year. The one great need in our Christian life is love, more love to God and to each other. Would that we could all move into that Love chapter, and live there. This volume contains, in addition to the address on Love, some other addresses which I trust will bring help and blessing to many. Reasons Wherefore A Clergyman Of The Church Of England Should Not Become A Roman Catholic: In Reply To R. W. Sibthorp (1842) is a book written by Henry Drummond. The book is a response to R. W. Sibthorp, who had converted from the Church of England to Roman Catholicism. Drummond argues that there are several reasons why a clergyman of the Church of England should not convert to Roman Catholicism. He believes that the Church of England is the true church and that Roman Catholicism is a false religion. Drummond also argues that Roman Catholicism is a corrupt and oppressive system that is incompatible with the principles of the Church of England. The book provides a detailed analysis of the differences between the two religions and offers a compelling argument against conversion. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Christianity and the relationship between the Church of England and Roman Catholicism. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Beautiful Thoughts is a classic collection of inspiring Christian quotes and thoughts by Henry Drummond. My first thought of writing out this religious study of brief selections sprang from the desire to assist a dear friend to enjoy the Author's helpful books. The epigrammatic style lends itself to quotation. Taste of the spring brings the traveller back to the same fountain on a day of greater leisure. Many times these "Beautiful Thoughts" have enlightened my darkness, and I send them forth with a hope and prayer that they may find echo in other hearts. E. C.

No class of works is received with more suspicion, I had almost said derision, than those which deal with Science and Religion. Science is tired of reconciliations between two things which never should have been contrasted; Religion is offended by the patronage of an ally which it professes not to need; and the critics have rightly discovered that, in most cases where Science is either pitted against Religion or fused with it, there is some fatal misconception to begin with as to the scope and province of either.
