Fishing is the author's main pastime. Since a teenager, aged 16 year-old, he started going to the beach for fishing. He would also accompany an acquainted commercial old fisherman going to the brackish mangrove swamps to catch mud crabs using a steel rod with one end slightly curved and casting net to catch prawns. The author would also go the 'kelong', a platform built from sort of palms driven into the sea bed. It has one or more shacks and a lift net to trap fish and squids at night. The experiences gave him the knowledge and expertise leading him confidently to own a fish farm used to breed fingerlings by the time he matured in his fifties. He also started owning a 62 ft. long fishing boat for charter. He introduced local waters fishing right up to the port limits. To give seasoned fishers a good fight for their money, he sailed out with fishers to Malaysian East Coast waters or to the nearby Indonesian islands waters, depending on the monsoons.
