The recipes are very quick to execute, often uncomplicated, and do not involve many ingredients. They shed light on the now forgotten tastes of times past. Recipes include numerous gruels, salads, sauces, custards, fruit soups, egg based dishes, sandwiches, and drinks. Some are straightforward accounts of well-known dishes, while others are unusual, including maple sandwiches, pineapple nutcream, and cherry soup.
