N'a pas que James, le frère cadet de Briant 9, délie le quai et commencer à aller sans but, sans adresse, seulement savent qu'ils étaient dans l'océan Pacifique, le sloughi est écrasé dans un autre bateau sans leur aide les enfants et les parents des enfants pensaient que le sloughi avait coulé parce que vu les parties du navire se sont écrasés dans le dock. Santiago était le plus vilain de tous, mais quand il fait ce mal, on ne savait pas, et le changement d'attitude, étant maintenant un enfant triste. Après la pêche une grosse tempête, et les fans à une île déserte, ce qui est l'endroit où ils commencent la grande aventure, qui dure deux ans et quelques jours.
