208,95 kr. De Sales begins: "If is true I am continually imploring that many graces may descend upon your soul; but above all, and for the sake of all, do I ask for divine love; for therein is our all. It is our honey, in which, and by which, all the affections of our hearts should be preserved and sweetened. My God, how happy is the interior kingdom, when this holy loye reigneth there! How happy are the faculties of our soul, which obey a king so holy and so wise! No, under his obedience, and in this state, he suffereth not great sins to dwell, nor even any affection for them. True, he allows them to approach nigh to the frontiers, in order to exercise the interior virtues in war, and to make them valiant; and he suffers venial sins and imperfections, like spies, to run up and down in his kingdom: but that is only to make us know that without him we should be a prey to all our enemies." The first section discusses our duties towards God. One section even tells us how to deal with temptations against the holy Faith. The next section deals with our duties towards our neighbor. "It is necessary we should know that love has its seat in the heart, and that we can never love our neighbor too much, or exceed the bounds of reason in that love, provided that it resides in the heart; for, so far as regards the signs of that love, we may easily fall short or exceed, going beyond the rules of sound reason. The great St. Bernard says, that" the measure of loving God is to love him without measure," and that in our love we should assign no limits, but allow it to spread its branches as far as it can. "That is here said of the love of God must also be understood of the love of our neighbor, provided always that the love of God floats above it, and holds the first rank." Part of our love of neighbor is obedience: "To animate us to obedience when we are tempted against it, we should consider its excellence, its beauty, its merit, and even its utility. This observation applies to souls who are not yet well settled in the love of obedience; for when there is merely question of a simple aversion or disgust, we must make an act of love and apply ourselves to the work. Our Lord, even in his passion, felt a sorrow even unto death, as he himself says; but in the sharp point of his spirit he was resigned to the will of his Father; all the rest was a movement of nature." The virtue of simplicity is described as well: "Simplicity is nothing else than an act of pure and simple charity, which has only one end, namely, that of pleasing God; and our soul is simple, when we have no other pretension in whatever we do." The next section discusses our duties towards ourselves: "Self-love may be mortified in us, but it, notwithstanding, never dies: on the contrary, from time to time, and on different occasions, it shoots forth germs in us which show that although it may be cut off at the stalk, it is not yet rooted up." We follow with a section on devotion: "The virtue of devotion is nothing else than a general inclination and promptitude of spirit in doing that which one knows is agreeable to God." We close with reflections on the principle feasts of the ecclesiastical year.

158,95 kr. There are as many paths to holiness as there are saints in Heaven . . . but you cant follow them all. Yet there's one thing every saint practices that you can imitate: the simple art of loving God, which the beloved St. Francis de Sales explains for you here. Under his wise and gentle guidance, you'll discover the secrets to growing holier through the simple things in life work, play, and rest. You'll learn to avoid the distractions (even religious distractions) that trouble and weary your soul . . . and you'll soon be able to focus your energy simply on loving God. Listen to the holy words of this saint; take them to heart; make them a part of your life. Soon you'll be well on your way, following that path to Heaven that God, from all eternity, has given you as your very own. St. Francis de Sales himself will teach you the secrets of developing: Patience Trust Modesty Courage Simplicity Humility Obedience Generosity Perseverance Selflessness Gentleness Love of God and other key virtues A note for the skeptical and discouraged: Have you tried to grow closer to God using one technique after another, yet still find you haven't made much progress? That's a common problem in today's world, where devotion has become so complicated that the simple art of loving God has been lost. Don't despair. Generations of Christians have made finding God harder than it need be, which is why, every few hundred years, God sends us a saint like St. Francis de Sales to remind us that anyone can love God and that it's not really so hard to do. Listen to St. Francis, and, no matter how many times you've failed in the past, you'll soon be a master of the art of loving God.

133,95 kr. From the young St. Francis de Sales' heroic efforts to bring Calvinists back to the Faith comes this succinct, eloquent defense of the age-old Catholic practice of making the Sign of the Cross, which 16th century Calvinists denounced as a Popish invention and many Protestants scorn even today. Embodying the zeal of youth and the wisdom of age, this gentle jewel of Catholic apologetics traces the origins of the Sign of the Cross back to the Fathers of the Church, to the Apostles before them, and finally to our Lord Himself. Along with St. Francis's other lucid explanations of our Catholic Faith and his undaunted love even for those who hated him, this modest book helped restore to their native Catholic faith tens of thousands of heretics who not long before were intent on killing him. As they did for the Calvinists in St. Francis's day, so in our day these pages will bring you a better understanding and a renewed love the Sign of the Cross, that brief and lively exterior prayer by which, from time immemorial, God has been invoked by serious Christians before all of their endeavors. Among the other things you'll learn here: --Why God chooses to attach power to the Sign of the Cross --How to convince skeptics to value and pray with it --Two uses of the Sign of the Cross: do you know both of them? --How the Sign of the Cross is the antidote to the Mark of the Devil --The theological significance of the motions, vertical and horizontal --Two reasons it has particular power against the Enemy --Why you should make the Sign of the Cross publicly and often. Outside the Creed itself, there are few topics to which the Fathers testify as universally and unanimously as the pious practice of making, frequently and well, the Sign of the Cross. With the help of these holy pages, the saints' love for it will enkindle yours. Soon you'll be saying with St. Jerome, "With every work, with all of my comings and goings, may my hand make the Sign of the Cross!"

357,95 kr. This is Part II of the Treatise: ""Treatise on the Love of God"", an authoritative work which reflects perfectly the mind and heart of Francis de Sales as a great genius and a great saint. It contains twelve books. The first four give us a history, or rather explain the theory, of Divine love, its birth in the soul, its growth, its perfection, and its decay and annihilation; the fifth book shows that this love is twofold - the love of complacency and the love of benevolence; the sixth and seventh treat of affective love, which is practiced in prayer; the eight and ninth deal with effective love, that is, conformity to the will of God, and submission to His good pleasure. The last three resume what has preceded and teach how to apply practically the lessons taught therein.
