Ludwig Wittgenstein's remarks on ethics constitute a fundamental part of his work, although by far the most enigmatic. From a labyrinth of propositions and arguments in the "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus", Wittgenstein builds a wall where sentences about value, whether aesthetic or ethical, remain beyond ordinary language, impossible to verify. This point would seem conclusive. However, when we study Wittgenstein's life and examine the testimonies of his students and friends, we know that his considerations about language protected his mystical and religious concerns from dangerous rationalization. This paper seeks to show the affinities between the world of philosophy and the world of literature. It is, in short, to elaborate the argumentation of the "Tractatus" and to find the affinities with Wittgenstein's favorite literary and religious author, Leo Tolstoy.

Ludwig Wittgensteins Ausführungen zur Ethik sind ein grundlegender Teil seines Werks, wenn auch der bei weitem rätselhafteste. Aus einem Labyrinth von Sätzen und Argumenten im "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus" baut Wittgenstein eine Mauer, in der Sätze über den Wert, ob ästhetisch oder ethisch, jenseits der gewöhnlichen Sprache bleiben, unmöglich zu verifizieren. Dieser Punkt scheint schlüssig. Wenn wir jedoch Wittgensteins Leben studieren und die Zeugnisse seiner Schüler und Freunde untersuchen, wissen wir, dass seine Überlegungen zur Sprache seine mystischen und religiösen Anliegen vor einer gefährlichen Rationalisierung schützten. In diesem Beitrag geht es darum, die Affinitäten zwischen der Welt der Philosophie und der Welt der Literatur aufzuzeigen. Kurz gesagt, es geht darum, die Argumentation des "Tractatus" herauszuarbeiten und die Affinitäten zu Wittgensteins bevorzugtem literarischen und religiösen Autor, Leo Tolstoi, zu finden.

DEXA 2004, the 15th International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications, was held August 30 ? September 3, 2004, at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. The quickly growing spectrum of database applications has led to the establisment of more specialized discussion platforms (DaWaK Conference, EC-Web Conference, EGOVConference, Trustbus Conference and DEXA Workshop: Every DEXA event has its own conference proceedings), which were held in parallel with the DEXA Conference also in Zaragoza. In your hands are the results of much effort. The work begins with the preparation of the submitted papers, which then go through the reviewing process. The accepted papers are revised to final versions by their authors and are then arranged within the conference program. All culminates in the conference itself. For this conference 304 papers were submitted, and I want to thank to all who contributed to it; they are the real base of the conference. The program committee and the supporting reviewers produced altogether 942 referee reports, in average 3,1 reports per paper, and selected 92 papers for presentation.
