182,95 kr. A unique urban fantasy adventure with a mix of mythological and supernatural elements set in contemporary Boston If encountering a warrior woman on horseback, complete with chain mail, animal hides, and sword, menacing a red-clad leprechaun in a top hat and carrying a magic lantern didn't blow Sean Regan's mind-a former police detective recently busted down to patrol-the giant, bloodthirsty, attacking vulture that disappeared into a gigantic puff of smoke certainly did. Add to that a series of bizarre murders-bodies whose very souls were sucked from them like a vacuum-those freaky October snow storms, a deadly search for an ancient Celtic artifact called Lia Fáil that could determine the fate of this world-and Others-depending on who possesses it, and oh yeah, a killing spree by what just might be a pesky vampire on the loose, all leave Regan's grasp on reality tenuous at best. Crap like that doesn't happen in modern-day Boston. Does it? Pre-Christian Irish mythology is divided into cycles; the earliest of these being the Mythological Cycle, from the Book of Invasions, and chronicles the ancient lives, loves, losses, battles, and wars of the great Celtic gods. Now bear witness to the Irish Cycle, the epic, multi-part tale of what comes next.

178,95 kr. Miller's poetry in Matrix is minimalist, but it is not austere; it is spare, but generous rather than dry. As with his prose poetry, there are buried quotations and allusions, a richness of layering. And there is the balance of repetition, compositions of colour replaced by their words, simple ink drawings.

- A Theater for the Twenty-First Century
153,95 kr. Although perhaps best known now for her long friendship and correspondence with the writer Flannery O'Connor, Maryat Lee (1923-1989) was a highly regarded playwright, first in New York City and later in Appalachia, where she created EcoTheater. In both cases she used non-professional performers and events and people from their own lives to create a fresh and enthralling sense of story. As she wrote in the magazine that eventually became Whole Earth Review, "The words 'acting' and 'actor' have an association with pretension for most people outside the theater. I want something different. I just want people simply, and not so simply, to be themselves." Her plays evolved from the real lives of junkies (Dope!), gay urban life when it wasn't mentioned in public (After the Fashion Show), and the legend of John Henry--with a female lead. From the Soul and Latin Theater of Harlem in the 1950's to remote West Virginia in the 70's and 80's, her passion for immediacy and real connection in theater shine through Professor Bill French's book.

- Following their trails to the nature of our nature
118,95 kr. After challenging the reader with "...are you happy, truly happy?", the author of three previous books of narrative poetry suggests you join him by returning to Mother Nature to find your true nature. Several "get naked" references entice you to dump your smart phone and other devices and take a walk, rejoin Nature, commune with Nature. Not sixties hippy style this time but with the appreciation for Nature inherent to Native American cultures. Go Native, become one with Nature, instead of living apart from it. Sing a few Bird Songs and BE! Like two of his previous books, the author leads us into his poetry through a narrative drawn from what he has learned while living in his "new" home town of Yucaipa, California, an area rich in Native American history and culture. He serves as a guide, rather than an expert, as he leads us on new trails to find our true selves, our true nature, our true happiness, in the Nature that Native Americans have known all along. We are also treated to poetry that pays tribute to local Native Peoples and their Bird Songs. While many of his stories, poems, and characters may be local to his Yucaipa, they are presented as examples of sources that can be found "in your Yucaipa". This is not rocket science, as he says, it's as easy as walking outside and being quiet, real quiet. The narrative and poetry are very accessible, even to the novice poetry reader, and would be good reading while sitting under a quiet tree, re-discovering yourself. Both serious and funny at times, the author invites us to join him in the Nature that beckons us home. In the latest edition a special tribute to the wisdom of grandmas/grandmothers has been added, along with several (9) new poems stemming from a recent trip taken with a local Native American elder to a local sacred site.

- Discovering a physical soul through poetry
118,95 kr. The Author/poet David Miller invites you into his home and life, and into a conversation that delves into such everyday questions as What is the soul? What is the meaning of life? What is the meaning of My life? Where did I come from? Who am I, really? Just simple, everyday questions. But instead of a scientific, theological, or philosophical treatise, the author asks you to join him, an average white man, on a quest to find out why the voice of black women seem to speak the loudest from his soul. We meet a black nurse that cradles him, a child with polio, against her warm big black breasts. His first teen crush, a new (you guessed it!) black English teacher with soft hands. A black and a brown woman at a Florida poetry gathering that send him off on a wild ride, 27 hours later, for the long drive home to California, writing feverishly along the way (and, oh, those dreams!). Finally, his most recent inspiration, his wife Myrtis, who liberates and releases the inner David that had been hiding in his shadows all along. Challenged with: "Have you ever written something erotic?" the poet's imagination (?) runs free, free, free at last. Erotica? Even chocolate erotica? From Dave, serious Dave. Who knew? Apparently, Myrtis! Woven into the conversation are more than forty poems and twenty haiku that help to tell the story, and yes, they're mostly about women, and yes, mostly black women. Oh sure, there's a little science like DNA, but this is a conversation, not a lecture. Your opinion counts. The author merely offers himself up as the starting point. What you think about him, and more importantly, what you think about yourself is up to you. Rather than just a book of poems that leaves you guessing their meaning or purpose, The Women I Am, is a presentation of poems within a story, each helping the author explain his African awareness, his relationship with black women, both in his present daily life and within each of our ancient souls. Mr. Miller is trying, after all, to answer the same questions many authors and poets ask: Why did I write that? Where did 'that' come from? His answer, well, see for yourself, decide for yourself.

- Making sense of them and me.
118,95 kr. Through the many colors we all are, we follow the author on a journey from the comforting arms and warm bosom of a black nurse in a polio ward to the open arms and welcoming bosom of a black woman fifty years later. As in David's other books, we are invited to join in the journey, not as mere spectators, but as participants. The story is told within both narrative prose and poetry, enhancing each with the other. This fifth book by the author serves as a prequel to The Women I Am and Walking Bear Footprints, wrapping them into one package of a poet's retrospective of his life that is individual and unique only because we all are just as individual and unique. Being born to two white parents that were too poor in too many things to be any color, the author's life intersects at very vital times with women of color that give him the colors that would find their way into his ancient African soul and into his poetry, and finally, into the arms of an African-American soul. While the color black is frequently emphasized so is the color red, for war. With red we follow a Viet Nam era veteran to an anti-war poet questioning the sense of it all. Being an every-man's poet, David does not disguise his feelings about his history and our history. In the end he invites us to decide for ourselves what our lives and our history tells us about ourselves as both individuals and as a society. And, although we may feel Alone in the Crowd, we learn that we never truly are.

98,95 kr. Released to the depths of a cold, dark river by her very young distraught mother, a child finds herself in a strange new world where, if she is to become an angel, she must first find the answers to why she is there and what: "I remember her crying," will lead to. We are first introduced to an old poet, who wrote, and is still writing, the story of the Angel Rose. At first he is reluctant to share it with the child who finds him writing, alone, with his back to the world. She must lead him out of his shadows, and help him rediscover himself and his voice. Along the way she will discover her own voice, and thus the tales begin. The stories are told through the weaving together of many poems into the narrative. They are stories as old as long ago, and as new as tomorrow, asking: What would we do. They are a type of coming-of-age story, or at least, coming-of-awareness. The dedication sets the tone: The Angel Rose is dedicated to the memory of the children of Ethiopia, The Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, the Sudan, and Syria (and too many, way too many, unaccounted for others). The author then goes on to ask us to remember them, our brothers, our sisters, our sons, our daughters all. While the two tales have numerous sources for their inspiration, such as the iconic cover photo of the Afgan Girl (National Geographic, June 1985, et.al.), the author's first inspiration came in a dream recounted in his book, "The Woman I Am," another book of exploring for truth and meaning through poetry. Hopefully, after enjoying this book you will be inspired to explore more yourself, and, the author hopes, even try exploring and expressing yourself through your own poetry.

- Learning to walk away from your ego thru haiku
118,95 kr. The first chapter begins: "Why haiku, or why poetry at all?" Then proceeds to answer both questions. After a brief history of haiku's origins the stage is set to have some fun. Yes, haiku can be serious, Zen like, even philosophical, but it can also be fun, both for the reader and the writer. Instead of just filling a book with haiku, the author, David Miller, leads us, chapter by chapter, through the many subjects that can be covered in three simple lines of twenty-seven, sometimes silly, syllables. The chapters include: Seasonal, Hiking, Seashore, Streetlamp, Just For Fun, Goin' to the Dogs, Sensual, Deeply Thought, and Garden haiku. Each chapter begins with an introduction telling why the author enjoys playing with words (even coining a few) in that particular realm. You are not only encouraged along the way to write on your own, you are given incomplete haiku at the end of each chapter to play around with (yes, there are answers later). It's a sneaky way of presenting a "How-To" book without it looking like a "How-to" book (oh, those devilish poets!). If you are looking for Zen, it's here too. But the author's Zen is explained in it's simplest form rather than through a deep and lengthy discourse. Your Zen is for you to find, and he leaves it at that! You may just unleash your inner poet (if you haven't already). Not sure what haiku or Zen is about, enter, and remember, lighten your load, cast out all the noise, relax, and above all, have fun! And, do over and over again, as necessary. (Don't worry about overdosing, and there are no dangerous side-effects.) This book would make a great companion to take along to the beach, to a park, take along on a hike, or wherever 'your' favorite spot is for personal time.
