An Up-Close View of the Mighty Mississippi River and A Visit To Lake SuperiorAfter crossing the Mississippi River many times as part of other long-distance cycling journeys, David decided to do more with America's most famous river. The distance of the river journey totaled out at over 2,500 miles over two summers while Freeze followed the Mississippi as closely as possible. He didn't miss interesting sites along the way like the Field of Dreams, and plenty of historic towns and cities as he pedaled to almost New Orleans before equipment issues ended Part 1 during August 2022. Part 2 followed the Mississippi north to its source at Lake Itasca, Minnesota. More than a mile wide at times, the Mississippi is reduced to just 12 feet wide and knee deep there. Not ready to be done at the river source, Freeze pedaled on the North Shore of Lake Superior to the Canadian border and back to Minneapolis. Still the unfinished last 30 miles into New Orleans called Freeze back with his Surly Long Haul Trucker bike to complete the whole river in October, 2023. Runner David Freeze makes a solo journey on foot across the state of North Carolina while pushing a baby jogger to carry his gear. Join him as he travels from the Tennessee state line to the Atlantic Ocean while encountering rain, snow and law enforcement.

Where to this time? With 39 states cycled including the District of Columbia and a venture into Canada, one big ride remained that would encompass the great Northwest, from Washington to Wisconsin. While sometimes called the Northern Tier, especially in cycling circles, this area had intrigued David for several years. With earlier ventures into Oregon, Idaho and Montana before heading south and east on the way to the Atlantic coast as part of the 2013 cross country journey, David wanted to see more. In fact, isn't that what this is all about? Wanting to see more of this great land at a pace of 10-12 mph, this time visiting the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin on bicycle for the first time. Over 40 days and just short of 3,000 miles, ride along with David as wind and weather provide unusual challenges over a sparsely settled and especially scenic portion of our great country. There is another cast of great characters along the way, a few on bikes but most who aren't. Experience yet another round of how David's faith helps him persevere as the miles pass by. Across America another time? This time along the southern border through desert heat with few supply points? Why would anybody want to do this, especially in the summer? David Freeze was ready for a big challenge, and he wanted to see some of America he had yet to visit. Organized and experienced, Freeze took his trusted Surly Long Haul Trucker bike west to San Diego, ready to begin yet another solo cycling journey. Up and down, mostly up for the first 1,000 miles, David battled extreme heat, endless challenging terrain and long distances between supply points for most of the next 3,000 miles over 43 days. Meet another unusual cast of characters along the way as he visits California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. David mixes his faith and unusual determination on this often extreme journey, sometimes just a few feet from the Mexican border. David makes you feel as if you're riding next to him, while mixing his down-to-earth writing style with plenty of enjoyable humor.

Just two states remain. Never one to take the easy way, David decides to ride from Nevada and go grab Alaska on his way to 50 states cycled. He rides through parts of California, Oregon and Washington again, this time south to north, continuing on into British Columbia and the Yukon.
