As Muluc is cut off from his sanctuary, and facing another year of beatings, his father insists he focus on finding his place in society and forget the silliness of his luddite grandfather. But Muluc can't let go of the hope of escape. He begins to wear his grandfather's ring in secret and experiences visions, a message being whispered to him through generations. The elusive message taunts him with the possibility of a life different than the one he has. Now Muluc must make a choice: either finally accept his life in the city, or do the scariest thing he can think of and take a leap of faith. But will such a choice put everything and everyone he loves at risk?
