This Book Is In German. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. 407,95 kr. The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication V1 is a book written by Charles Darwin, one of the most influential scientists of the 19th century. In this book, Darwin explores the process of domestication and the ways in which humans have influenced the evolution of animals and plants. He examines the variations that occur within species and how these variations can be selectively bred to create new breeds or varieties. Darwin also discusses the role of natural selection in the domestication process and how it differs from the selection methods used by humans. The book is divided into two volumes, with the first volume focusing on variation in animals and the second volume focusing on variation in plants. This book is considered an important contribution to the field of evolutionary biology and continues to be studied and referenced by scientists today.1885. Part One of Two. Darwin, the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection, writes in the introduction: The object of this work is not to describe all the many races of animals which have been domesticated by man, and of the plants which have been cultivated by him; even if I possessed the requisite knowledge, so gigantic an undertaking would be here superfluous. It is my intention to give under the head of each species only such facts as I have been able to collect or observe, showing the amount and nature of the changes which animals and plants have undergone whilst under man's dominion, or which bear on the general principles of variation. Contents: Domestic Dogs and Cats; Horses and Asses; Pigs-Cattle-Sheep-Goats; Domestic Rabbits; Domestic Pigeons; Fowls; Duck-Goose-Peacock-Turkey-Guinea Fowl-Canary Bird-Goldfish-Hive Bees-Silk Moths; Cultivated Plants: Cereal and Culinary Plants; Fruits-Ornamental Trees-Flowers; On Bud Variation and On Certain Anomalous Modes of Reproduction and Variation; and Inheritance. 78,95 - 228,95 kr. Charles Robert Darwin, 12 February 1809 - 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors and, in a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace, introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.

93,95 - 223,95 kr.

98,95 kr. Geological Observations on the Volcanic Islands, visited during the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle is a book written by the English naturalist Charles Darwin. The book was published in 1844, and is based on his travels during the second voyage of HMS Beagle, commanded by captain Robert FitzRoy. It is the second book in a series of geology books written by Darwin, and also includes The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs, published in 1842, and Geological Observations on South America, published in 1846 The text contains seven chapters, and includes observations made during Darwin's travels to the volcanic island of St. Jago in Cape Verde, the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, Ascension Island, the island of Saint Helena, the Galápagos Islands, James Island, New Zealand, Australia, Van Diemen's Land, and the Cape of Good Hope. The book includes one of the earliest accounts of the process of magmatic differentiation. While observing a basaltic lava flow in the Galápagos Islands, Darwin observed that "crystals sink from their weight"[3][note 1] and that this "throws light on the separation of the high silica versus low silica series of rocks."[2] This was the first proposal of the fractional crystallization hypothesis of magma differentiation that was further developed and demonstrated in the 20th century. The geologist Archibald Geikie praised the book, calling it "the best authority on the general geological structure of most of the regions it describes," and that Darwin was "one of the earliest writers to recognize the magnitude of denudation to which even recent geological accumulations have been subjected." A second edition of the book, published in 1876, combines Geological Observations on the Volcanic Islands with Geological Observations on South America.

173,95 kr.
