It also underscores the themes of emotional isolation and modern fragmentation. Seventeen-year old Kora Kavanaugh meets thirty-eight year-old Dennis Duquette at Alcoholics Anonymous. Dennis is the father figure she's been missing all her life, but the friendship they develop eventually turns into a sexual relationship. As Dennis unzips Kora's pants, she realized that it is her heart that is exposed and that it could very well be the undoing of her. The question becomes is it love or are they just trying to be the impossible dream for one another. Is their affair pornographic or is profound? Kora never gets a chance to answer that question, because Dennis breaks it off with her. Both Kora and Dennis end up in a downward spiral back into drinking and drugs. Kora, who narrates the story, finds herself searching for love in the all wrong places. She is lonely and looking connect to someone, but all she finds are walls-her own and the ones put up by subsequent men she gets involved with. As she finds herself waiting for the worms, she has an epiphany and turns her life around. In the security of a loving relationship, Kora is finally able to come to grips with the verbal abuse she suffered at the end of her relationship with Dennis and finally understand what drove them apart. Forgiveness comes years later, proving it is never to late to say your sorry and never too late to heal old wounds. It is a sad story, but it is also uplifting because it shows that compassion is not only possible, but also necessary.

183,95 kr. What is a Literary Canon? A Canon is a body of books, music, and art that scholars generally accept as the most important and influential in shaping culture. That includes works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama generally perceived as being of major artistic merit and representing the high culture. Belonging to the canon means a work has status, social, political, economic and aesthetic value. It is a guarantee of quality. The authors and poets represented here in Cari's Canon are a unique representation of the Current Critical Cannon. These Essays and Journal Entries span from 1991 to 2002-essentially covering High School through Graduate School. While the collection includes Shakespeare and other standard classics, it also encompasses Modern and Postmodern authors as well. However, Feminism and Women's Studies takes center stage toward the end. It is a wonderful snapshot of the diverse scholarship during the 1990s and early 2000s.

153,95 kr. Logos is Greek for Word, Logic, Rhetoric or Wisdom. For Aristotle, logos is something more refined than the capacity to make private feelings public: . It makes it possible for him to perceive and make clear to others through reasoned discourse the difference between what is advantageous and what is harmful, between what is just and what is unjust, and between what is good and what is evil. For the Christians, Logos is another way to think of Jesus. For Gnostics, it can represent Sophia or the personification Wisdom. In this Dream Diary, Cari explores many of these ideas and more. Perhaps her most philosophical effort yet, this profound Dream Diary will having pondering the subtext and symbols behind her endless words.

128,95 kr. What is an Unstory? It is a term that I created to express the idea of an Unfinished Story. But an Unstory is more than just Unfinished. It is like the Undead or Uncola. It is a genre unto itself. Sometimes it is a vignette or slice of life and sometimes it is part of a larger, untold story in media res. The Unstories often defy the convention of story telling. They don't always have a standard beginning, middle and ending. So, the term has come to include not only those Unfinished stories, but also my early attempts at writing, which are short and unpolished, as well as my Flash Fiction. Anyway you look at it, this collection is as unique as the title and sure to please fans of Cari Lynn Vaughn's longer works.

98,95 kr. Emotions are energy and they are subjected to the same Laws of Physics as other forms of energy. Here, in these profound pages, author Cari Lynn Vaughn explores this idea in depth. First, she discusses the language of emotions and the neurochemistry involved. Slowly, she moves into the world of Physics. From Thermodynamics to Electrodynamics, there are lessons everywhere. Touching upon Quantum Physics and String Theory, Vaughn considers how all these fields converge into a new unified theory about our inner world. In the last section of the book, Vaughn explores the Ocean as Metaphor, discovering new ideas in Oceanography, The Composition of Sea Water, Marine Biology, Diving and Surfing, among others. This book is part educational and part inspirational, but it is all enjoyable. It is meant to be a poetic journey that is as practical as it is poetic. It will change the way you think and perhaps even change your life.
