  • - and Other Foundational Teachings of the Christian Life
    af Bruce Buckingham

In this important book based on a classroom teaching series, Jamie Buckingham draws from his rich theological background, years of personal study and experience, and decades as the pastor of a large congregation to answer six foundational questions that we often take for granted: - Who is God?- Who is Jesus?- Who is the Holy Spirit?- What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit?- What is communion?- What is the church? With great wisdom, humor, and insight, Jamie provides clear and in-depth answers as he explores what the Bible has to say about each of these core subjects. For example, who is God? According to Jamie, He is not who most people imagine Him to be. He is not "the big guy upstairs." He's not a bearded old man in the clouds, lightning bolt in hand, ready to punish us at the least provocation. To understand who God is, we must first understand His specific attributes as described in Scripture-and Jamie is a master at breaking these down for us. He gives similar treatment to the questions about Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, communion, and the church, and touches on many other essential Christian topics along the way. Do you want a closer walk with God, a deeper relationship with Jesus, and a better understanding of the Holy Spirit's presence and work in your life? Then join the classroom. Allow Jamie to encourage and enlighten you with biblical answers and personal insights into these foundational questions of the Christian faith.

  • - Attaining the Desires of Your Heart
    af Bruce Buckingham
    78,95 kr.

Do you have a desire in your heart-a deep longing that you hope for day after day, year after year? Do you have some sort of unrequited yearning that is burning deep within you, something that you want very badly to happen, but it hasn't come about yet? I believe there is within most of us a desire or a dream or a vision that we hope will one day come to pass. We may have never expressed this desire or dream to anybody. It may be so private and so personal that we have never been able to even speak it out loud. It just resides within us, at the very heart of us. I firmly believe that God wants you to have the desire of your heart, whatever it is. But I also believe that there is a godly way by which your desire will come to pass. Simply wishing for it is not enough. There is more to it than that.

What we as Christians are to do when it turns out that God's plans for our life are different from our hopes or our dreams? What does the Bible say about facing reality? What do the scriptures tell us about trials and tribulations that we all experience? What happens when things go wrong? How do we overcome the great disappointments in life?Jamie's unique ability to tell a story that touches our deepest wounds, comes from his personal experiences, his own disappointments and his faith that God is a loving, kind and giving God. This message will touch your spirit and heal your deepest hurts and disappointments.Spoken to a church following the death of their beloved pastor's wife, Jamie reveals scriptural truths that prove, despite our disappointments or sense that our prayers are unanswered, God has a better plan than we could have ever hoped for ourselves.

In this book taken from a sermon by Jamie Buckingham, Jamie states there are no prophets or prognosticators for the future. There are only weathervanes for the present. Nobody knows where the wind is blowing. Jesus said you cannot tell where it is going. Nobody knows. The best we can do is to hoist a weathervane and say, "This is the way it's blowing today." There are no prophets for the future. There are only weathervanes for the present. Others, on the other hand, have cranked up wind machines and are doing it their own way. I know a lot of people in ministry today who have built huge wind machines. They turn them on and point them in a direction of their choosing, usually in a way that benefits them, and they say, "Look! This is the way the wind is blowing. And if you get involved in my ministry. . ." Be careful. That machine might just blow you off the surface of the earth. The problem we have concerning wind machines and weathervanes, the problem we have is that we want to know which way the Spirit of God is going to be blowing. In fact, we would like it to blow the same way all the time. Wouldn't it be great to know that every time I go out in a boat, there's going to be a following sea? And every time I come back into shore, there's going to be a following sea. Wouldn't it be great if I never had to go through the tall waves, but instead there was a wind at my back always pushing me along? We want to walk by sight rather than by faith.

Have you ever wondered what Disney World would be like if it were centered on Jesus instead of cartoon characters? Would it be a good thing? Or would there just be as much fantasy as any other theme park run by robotics and remote controls? Is it OK to make Jesus and his message more "entertaining" if people are converted in the process? Or is it better to simply follow the pattern of his life and his lifestyle, and make not just converts, but true disciples? Jesus World, a novel, is a fictional study of the differences between high profile Christianity, riddled with compromise yet justified by countless conversions, and simple Jesus-like discipleship. Can both exist side-by-side? Or will one overtake the other, in the name of God?

Have you ever found yourself in a pit, emotionally, financially or spiritually? In a way only he can teach, Jamie Buckingham relates the pit experiences of Joseph from the book of Genesis to our own "pits" of today. Joseph found himself in two very different kinds of pits in his life: once in the desert when he angered his brothers, and again in Egypt, when he was punished for doing the right things in the eyes of God. Jamie shows us that these pits - the pit of correction and the pit of curing - are God's tools for getting our attention for life-lessons He wants us to learn. This book is adapted from a message preached by Jamie Buckingham. A master storyteller and Bible teacher, Jamie has delighted millions around the world both in person and in print. As a distinguished Bible teacher with graduate degrees in English Literature and Theology, Jamie was respected among liturgical, evangelical, and Pentecostal Christians. Jamie was a husband, father, grandfather, and founding pastor of the Tabernacle Church, an interdenominational congregation in Melbourne, Florida, where he served for 25 years, pastoring and discipling followers of Christ. He lived in a rural area on the east coast of Florida on a family compound with his wife, Jackie, surrounded by five married children.

God loves you. And if you will let Him, He will not only direct your path, but He will give you power to live. That's what this book is all about: Power for living. Let God give you power, not only to live, but to live abundantly. The prophet Isaiah said it best: "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31). Our problem is we are trying to do life in our own strength, and it's not enough. We need God. We need His Son, Jesus. And with God's strength working within us, we can have power for living.

This edition includes dozens of new and never before seen photographs! This is a book of hope, encouragement, and the true-to-life experiences of a man who was told he was going to die, yet he continued to seek God and hold out hope that the Lord of the universe was with him and would be with him all the way to the end, whenever that might be. This book is for all those who need to know that God is love and He is still in control. Jamie Buckingham was in his prime as one of the best-known Christian writers in all the world when he got a surprise diagnosis. Inoperable cancer and you only have months to life. This book details the timeline from the point of the doctor's initial diagnosis, to the prayers of his family and church, to the revised diagnosis, through his subsequent operation, and his eventual healing. It is a story of hope. It's a story of a God who still cares. It's a story of an eternal gratitude for a healing Jamie himself claims was undeserved because of his own pride. It's also a story of how Jamie faced his greatest fears. Of leaving his family, should he write his own obituary, how was he to deal with unrest among some of his pastoral staff, one or two of whom seemed to be pushing for his early retirement from the ministry-so they could take over; and often conflicting theological explanations from well-meaning preachers from all over the world. Jamie soon realized it was a progressive revelation by a God who was revealing his intentions to him little by little. The words from God Jamie received most consistently that summer, "You shall not die, but live to declare the works of the Lord," surely came to pass, even if he was to only live an extra 20 months beyond his initial diagnosis. During those months, following his 1990 summer-time healing, which came in the form of a miraculous operation and recovery at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Jamie indeed declared the works of the Lord, and part of that declaration was in his writing of this book, Summer of Miracles. It was a summer of miracles for Jamie Buckingham-and for all who knew him. It seemed that God was at work in everyone-his family, his church and his friends.Jamie's life and ministry are somewhat of an unexpected contrast. For years he had been an internationally renowned author, columnist and conference speaker and a close friend of just about every Christian leader of whom you have ever heard. Yet there is a simple "down home" side to Jamie and his wife, Jackie, that is inescapable. Something that makes you feel comfortable and accepted.Their lives were interwoven with families in a home group that had been meeting for thirteen years, with neighbors they'd known for twenty-five, and with the members of their church, most of whom had no idea of the notoriety, respect and influence Jamie Buckingham had in the Christian community around the world. To them, he and Jackie were simply neighbors and friends. Then there's the Buckingham compound. Three of the five children had built their homes on the twenty-acre property. There were the Sunday afternoon basketball games with neighbors and family; the thirteen grandchildren who roamed the property's pine-tree forests and fished in the pond out back; and the big house where Jamie and Jackie presided as patriarchs over this American version of Camelot. But how quickly a dream can be shattered.Very few doubt God's ability to heal. The questions are: Will He? When will He? What am I supposed to in the meantime? This is a book about standing on God's Word, struggling with the idea of faith and, most of all, God's power to heal. It's about how to act when your friends, your father or husband is in big trouble; it's about close family and long-term relationships-things so many have lost in this transient society we live in.Don't wait until you need a miracle to read this book. Learn now how to live and appreciate your life before you face the end of it.

If we want God to answer our prayers in a specific way, we need to ask Him specifically for what we desire. God blesses specific prayers! In this teaching, Jamie Buckingham shares the Old Testament story of Hannah, a barren woman who prayed fervently for a child--and not just a child, but specifically, a son. God blessed her specific prayer with the birth of Samuel, who she dedicated back to the service of the Lord. From Hannah's example and examples in his own life, Jamie draws several conclusions about specific prayer, including: -God knows when the prayer you say with your lips actually matches the intent of your heart-God responds to the prayer of your heart, even when you don't have words to express it-When times are darkest, God is still listening--and speakingDo you have a specific prayer? God wants to answer it! The key is to come to Him with a childlike heart, an open ear, and a willingness to obey whatever He tells you.

Often, as people read the Bible, they come under the conviction that God wants them to change their ways. Or perhaps He wants to encourage them with the example of one of His fearful but obedient children. Or warn them of impending disaster if they persist in behavior He does not condone. Why do Bible people affect them this way? Because they are not legendary giants or super-heroes; they are ordinary people. What would you do if you were a young girl suddenly confronted by an angel with the most incredible mission imaginable, or a great king who had succumbed to temptation and now still had to go on? Jamie Buckingham explores the lives of ten of the best-known people in the Bible and finds out just how much they are like you and me. With a rare ability to bring characters to life, the author takes a fresh look at Deborah and Mary, David and Abraham, Elijah, John the Baptist, Gideon, Joshua, John Mark and Simon Peter at crisis points in their lives. And he discovers four common themes: (1) All God wants is someone who will obey; (2) God is not impressed by the things that impress us; (3) God has His own reasons for whom He chooses; and (4) God chooses people with the same problems and temptations, the same hurts and loves, as we have. Pastor, teacher, and teller of tales, Jamie Buckingham was the author of more than 45 books. He was senior pastor at the 3,000-member Tabernacle Church in Melbourne, Florida, until his death in 1992.

  • - Stop Living Like You Are Already Dead!
    af Bruce Buckingham
    83,95 kr.

It is God's purpose and plan for us all to grow old and to go through physical changes. But it is not God's purpose for us to grow old and stop serving Him.Everything changes because our God is a God of change. There is nothing stationary about God. He is always moving and progressing forward and, as Christians, we are part of something God is doing, regardless of our age or physical condition. So regardless of how old you are or how you feel physically, God still has something for you to do for His kingdom. Regardless of age, you have high value to God. God does not want his people to retire from His service. He needs you now more than he has ever needed you in all your life. He needs you during all of your living years. I don't see any place in God's concept for life that people retire and sit in a rocking chair all the rest of their days. That is not God's plan for your life. Stop living like you are already dead!Be excited about your future regardless of how long your past goes back. The doors ahead of you are open. Be creative and productive all the way up to the time God calls you home. Get involved in your church or community organization. Be a light to the world and shine until your last breath. Don't let your age or physical inabilities ever stop you from doing what God is asking you to do. Grab hold of your eternal vision and God will use you for that ministry He still has planned for you.

We all face death. It is inevitable. The Scriptures say that life is a mist that appears for a little while then vanishes. The fact is, life as a Christian is a process of learning not only how to live, but how to get ready to die. What's the key? The way to get ready to die, Jamie Buckingham states, is to simply die ahead of time. The way to get ready for the casket is to go by way of the Cross. The way to get ready for eternal life is to lay down your life here on earth.Only then will you be able to face not only the challenge of dying, but also the challenges of living. As a Christian, life becomes a great adventure the moment you recognize that you are already dead to the world-and alive in Christ!Death is our enemy, but it has been conquered. We have nothing to fear in Christ. In the resurrection of Jesus, death has lost both its strength and power. When we are released from this body there is something far greater waiting for us than what we have ever known on earth. Life is temporal, eternity is forever.

People, like trees, bear fruit in their proper season. In this booklet, taken from a favorite sermon by Pastor Jamie Buckingham, we read that the blessed tree is not the kind that needs to be watered, or nourished, all the time. This tree does not need constant feeding in order to bring forth fruit in its season. The blessed tree may be planted by a dry river bed, but it has roots that go deep into the ground, where reservoirs of stored water are found. In the same way, the blessed man is not meant to produce fruit all the time. But he will produce fruit in its proper season, when his spiritual roots are dug deep into the reservoir of Living Water: Jesus Christ. There are seasons for bearing fruit and there are seasons for not bearing fruit. In those barren seasons we should not be discouraged. God is still working on and through us, and we will produce fruit in the proper time. But we must remember, even when our branches are barren and the rains don't fall, He loves us and is watching over us and one day, again, we will bear fruit.

  • - Three words that need to be redefined.
    af Bruce Buckingham
    88,95 kr.

Jamie speaks openly about a serious issue he had with one of his pastors and how it affected the entire church, especially the fellowship of the church. Then he goes on to discuss three key terms often mentioned in the Bible but which have inadequate translations in today's English. As a result, we fail to fully comprehend what the words, grace, love and fellowship truly mean. He explains in detail these three words and begins to place context around them in a New Testament light. He states that these words above all others, need to be reintroduced to the church with their real meanings, and not the common interpretations in light of today's society.

Does criticism devastate you? Does it make you feel rejected, despondent, even angry? If so, this book could change your life. In this book you will hear the Word of God. As it soaks into your mind, it will bring you to that place that you will know who you really are in Christ, that you can stand up against that which is wrong, and you can have the strength to receive the kind of correction God wants you to have. There are two kinds of criticism and two kinds only: that which is justified and that which is not justified. The wise person knows how to discern between the two.

  • - Lessons from an Ancient Love Story
    af Bruce Buckingham
    83,95 kr.

Hosea was the first of all prophets to talk about the nature of God. Not only did he talk about it, he acted it out. Hosea took Gomer, a town prostitute, to be his wife. When she eventually left him, Hosea went back and bought her back from the threat of slavery and death. His actions were an actual demonstration of God's love for his people, of how God gave his most beloved Son, to purchase us and save us from the bonds of sin. The story of Hosea and Gomer is probably the greatest love story in all the Bible because it demonstrates the love God has for us. Are we willing to move into the house of the Lord, or are we going to be like Gomer, and forsake His love and forgiveness and go the way of the prostitute? This is an extraordinary story and it's applications transcend the years. Jamie Buckingham is a master story teller and this is a story he tells in a manner no one else can. This book is based on one of his sermons.

Each chapter in this book lends itself to the spiritual growth of the believer. Are you aware that you will very likely encounter false teachers? This book will help show you how to discern and deal with them. We are to know our position in the kingdom of God, utilizing the authority and dominion He has returned to us through Jesus Christ. We are to be diligent and avoid deceptive teachings and avoid the wiles of Satan as he continually attempts to tempt us, to draw us away from our loving heavenly Father. We all need to better understand our need for inner healing so we can handle the frustrations in life, the disappointments in life, and not let them derail us from growing in spiritual maturity in our relationships with others and with Christ. And finally, we should fully understand and utilize the tools and spiritual gifts God provides us, through the filling of the Holy Spirit, so we can stand in these last days, not in our own power, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. As you read through this book, my prayer is you will hear from the heart of God as He continues to reach out and speak to his beloved Church, His people, His called out ones, as we rapidly approach the return of the King. As I was preparing these sermons and editing them for publication, I was struggling with a title for the book. The old cassette tapes I discovered of my father's messages, were not labeled, except for the individual sermons, which I have maintained as the chapter titles in the book.As I was working on the transcriptions, preparing them for final publication, I was re-reading a book passed over to me by my wife, Michele. The book was by Francis Frangipane titled, The Days of His Presence (Arrow Publications, 1995). In one chapter Frangipane references a scripture from Isaiah in which the prophet Isaiah is proclaiming that the Spirit of God is telling his people what to expect in the last days. Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For, behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you, and His glory will appear upon you. And nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising (Isaiah 60:1-3 NAS). As I read this verse, I sensed that this is essentially what this book is about-helping prepare the church for the return of Christ.Perhaps Frangipane said it best when he stated, "God is qualifying us to receive His splendor! Do not fear or think of yourself as unworthy-of course you are! We all are. It is for His glory that we are being prepared."Indeed nations shall come to His light and kings to the brightness of His rising. Bruce Buckingham, Risky Living Ministries.

"Success does not come by making popular decisions. It comes by obeying God." "One reason there are so many unhappy Christians is they feel God should be doing them favors and heaping upon them material rewards and benefits, rather than working as a Carpenter to shape their lives back into His own image." "Life is designed by God as a pilgrimage composed of many wildernesses....." These and many other quotes and excerpts from a variety of Jamie Buckingham's popular books and teachings have been compiled for the purposes of this book. The Spirit-controlled life is not a wild, reckless, fanatical approach to life's problems. Rather it is the recognition that no man can ascend the hill of God under his own steam. The Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom, not a political kingdom. Good ideas are not enough. We must have the mind of God, the sensitivity of God, the vision of God, the gift of God, in order to achieve our goals and fulfill our dreams. That does not come through training, it comes by faith, obedience to His commands, and abiding in His presence.Everything that comes into the life of a Christian is designed to help him mature, to draw closer to God. That is the purpose of all circumstances and events. But in order to come into the presence of God, we must come on His terms.Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol, or swear by what is false. He will receive his blessing from the Lord and vindication from God his Savior (Psalm 24:3-5). The final approach to the throne always seems to be the most difficult. Most of us spend more time ascending and descending than we do abiding. Our great resolutions to do better nearly always wind up with a terrible fall, meaning we have to start all over again. But the road to the top is not only difficult because of bandits, tempters, or deceivers. Rather it is the pits beside the road which hold the greatest threat. It is blocked with gates and bordered by deep pits waiting to consume us. Only those who are under constant control of the Holy Spirit will arrive. Perhaps I can best describe what I mean through a diagram of a mountain. (See diagram at beginning of book). On the summit is the glory of God. But coming up the mountain is a steep road. It is blocked by three gates and bordered by six pits. Yet it is the path of every man who seeks the abiding presence of God . . .

  • - Eternal Lessons from Habakkuk
    af Bruce Buckingham

It is difficult for many of us today to imagine living in a nation without religious freedoms. But that is what Habakkuk had to endure. When he took his complaints to God, you might be surprised at God's response. With three swift replies, God tells this Old Testament prophet that He, God, is in complete control, and Habakkuk should stop worrying. It is a timeless message-not only for Habakkuk and his nation, which was about to be overrun by a ruthless enemy, but for the church today. Through this teaching by Jamie Buckingham, you will better understand what God means when He says, "The just shall live by faith." And you will know, without a doubt, that God is indeed in control of this world. This is an eternal message for the ages-one that is relevant for today's church and the issues we face in a society under siege.

Have you ever watched an eagle soar? Picture one now, gliding motionless on the thermal winds, far above the gusts that whip the surface of the earth. His movement is most graceful when he yields to the flow of the currents and lets them carry him. That's the way it is with Christians, says Jamie Buckingham, when we relinquish our lives to the movement of God's Spirit. With biblical examples like Moses, Joshua, and David, and with graphic testimony of his own experiences, Jamie Buckingham shows the consequence of resisting God's presence in the innermost recesses of our lives . . . and the almost indescribable changes that come when we yield to Him.Here is a book that shows you how your life with Christ can move beyond just being a memory of a salvation experience. If you let Him, God can and will lift you from your present existence and start you on a venture Where Eagles Soar.Jamie Buckingham (1932-1992) was one of the most widely read Christian authors of his time. Daniel was a man of great patience. When faced with persecution, hardship, and temptation, he refused to take the easy way out. Instead, he remained faithful to God and waited patiently for God to rescue him in His own time and in His own way. In this teaching, Jamie Buckingham uses Daniel's example, as well as trials and lessons from his own life, to encourage us to be faithful and to have patience in difficult times. God delivered Daniel from the lion's den. He will deliver us too. Are you patient? Will you allow God to do His work in you in His timing? Remember, God is never in a hurry. He has plans for your life--and if you trust Him enough to wait, He will bring them to pass.

There is a curtain on the invisible world. Yet, there are times when God raises the curtain and we are permitted to see beyond the veil into the spiritual world. What is beyond is marvelous. Angels are all around us, and they are standing ready to fight our spiritual battles for us. All we need to do to activate them is to pray. When we pray, God mobilizes the angelic forces, and suddenly the battle is no longer ours. The battle is the Lord's. In this little book, Jamie Buckingham tells of the importance of prayer in his life. He then relates the story of the prophet Elisha and how, when the curtain to the spiritual world was raised, he viewed a multitude of angelic forces prepared to battle his enemies. Prayer was the key to activating those angels. And prayer remains the key to activating angelic forces on our behalf today.
