At 28, Tiffany Ambrose returned to Tyrrell County, NC, her childhood home renting a townhouse located on the Albemarle Sound. It was one of Roger Hudson's newest projects and was located adjacent to his marina and campgrounds. It was adjacent to Connie's Steak House. Another of Roger's projects. She'd spent 8 years in the air force and maybe would have relisted had her friend and lover, Sgt. Flynn Hardy not tragically died in a fall on Maui while they were taking some R & R there. She'd been immediately transferred to Seymour Johnson AFB near Goldsboro, NC for the remainder of her hitch but couldn't shake the memories of living off base with Sgt Hardy. One of her life's biggest hassles was her huge rack (44 D's) that began growing when she was 13 and didn't seem to ever want to stop.Fresh out of the service an operation changed her bra size from 44D's to 38C's.With38C's, she was a new person and moved to Isle of Palms, SC meeting the man she would eventually marry. She was a bit wild when first arriving but Nance, her husband to be tamed her and now they were living in Virginia Beach with their twins and their company, 'Numbers' was the latest IPO on Wall Street and doubled the next day. By week's end Numbers was valued at over a billion dollars and their future knew no bounds.

27 years old, her auburn hair flowing well below her shoulders, emerald eyes, lips that made you want to kiss them, size 6; she was a nice catch for the right man and she was looking for him. She'd been a nurse at Beaufort Vidant in Washington, NC for the past 7 years until 2 weeks ago. Back last spring, just before Memorial Day, Gary, she'd been dating him for almost a year, told her that it had to end and walked away leaving her dumbfounded. Nan, her next door neighbor, and best friend, helped her though it and was the first to applaud when Ruby said she was moving on with her life.Googling, she found an ad for a nurse on the outer banks. Avon, she knew where it was. It wasn't Rodanthe, but maybe her "Knight" was waiting for her there. She called and made an appointment for an interview on the Friday after Labor Day. She was hired immediately and gave her 2-week notice the following Monday. She and the movers arrived at the duplex she'd rented with the help of Dr. Covington and Jeannie, the office secretary and receptionist, a full-blooded, card carrying, Hoi'toider if there ever was one, on Saturday the 26th. That evening, hungry, she drove up to the Open Water Grill. A hunk walked in while she was eating. It turned out to be Randy Bowman, a wildlife photographer. Seeing her, he walked over introducing himself. He'd asked her out to dinner on the following Saturday but now, it was Wednesday and Hurricane Isaac was bearing down on the outer banks. What was she going to do? Her parents begged her to stay with them in Plymouth until the storm passed but Randy had fled the Crystal coast where he'd planned to spend the entire week doing photo shoots on Bear Island and Bogue Inlet knowing the ferries would shut down, he would arrive back in Avon later that night and she was having breakfast with him in the morning at Stu's . She didn't want to miss their Saturday date but Hurricane Isaac was knocking on her door.

John Williams grew up in rural eastern North Carolina on a tobacco farm. Growing up was mostly, work, chores, and fun with Jr. and the boys until a game of "spin-the-bottle" changed how he looked at everything. When Darlene led him into the bedroom, shut the door and planted her ruby-red lips on his. He was in love. It only lasted until summer and she was gone. John was devastated having no idea what awaited him when school started back that fall. Taylor Outlaw would step in to his life and remain there until he graduated and move to Richmond to find work. Their relationship remained intact, although wavering, until she graduated and began her college studies at BYU in Utah. Studying with a friend became love and she married Danny effectively ending her long relationship with John. During the entire time John traveled northeastern North Carolina he was constantly plagued by a dream. His high school sweetheart, Taylor, would appear standing, in her prom dress, with her hand outstretched. It made no sense to him. Their letters stopped after her first year at BYU and he had no idea what became of her. He moved Murfreesboro, NC immediately after taking the northeastern North Carolina sales territory waking up one morning with Teri Ann beside him. She stayed and life was good until her bickering about marriage and children turned their relationship sour. Meeting Alice didn't help either; John was swept off his feet by her beauty. She also was ready for a relationship after a failed marriage left her with two children. From the beginning, they were almost inseparable being in each-other's arms whenever possible. The physical attraction for each other was phenomenal. Their weekend on the outer banks was the highlight of their relationship when, for the first time, John said, "I love you" when he dropped her off after their romantic trip. First an accident, then a tragic death would change everything...

Extremely shy but very beautiful, Darlene met Dr. Ray Hardy when she took the position as radiology assistant and dietary assistant manager at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, NC. He was a marine biologist attached to Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC. He swept her off her feet introducing her to a world she never knew existed. He, and his brother, Dan, owned Prime Properties, Inc. that had assets in excess of a billion dollars. On their first date, she wore a green cocktail dress and he was mesmerized by her beauty. Later, in St. Croix, he bought her another one. Now, he was in Australia doing a research project on the Great Barrier Reef. He promised Darlene that it would be the last one and they'd never be apart again. True to his word, He met her in Hawaii that July asking her to be his wife. She couldn't have been happier until Sunday. She returned home knowing he'd be in Australia for another nine long months. She would spend Christmas alone in their cottage on Bath Creek. She was lonely but she was counting the days until he returned. His year in Australia was almost complete and her excitement grew by leaps and bounds with each passing day until she received the call. Her brother-in-law, Dan, sadly informed her that Ray's plane had gone down in the 'outback.' "The bush pilot had no transponder or radio on-board. They flew by the seat of their pants." Darlene was devastated, was he hurt or even worse? Would she ever see her 'Mr. Right, ' again?

Back in 2000 when I published my cookbook, I said that when the Lord made pork chops, he said that they would be my favorite meat forever. That hasn't changed over the past twelve years; they still are as are most pork cuts. Admittedly, now I grill most meats including pork, beef, poultry, and fish, but still enjoy breaded pork chops fried in hog lard and I still use lard in my biscuits. There's something about the taste that can't be matched by any other shortening I'm acquainted with. From my beginning back in the years of World War II, pork was a main staple my first year of life back on the family farm. You're right, I don't remember it, but it must have been imprinted on my hard drive and the desire for it has never been removed. After being introduced to pork chops and hog lard, Justin Wilson brought wine into my life, and I've been on a roll ever since. Born in rural Duplin County, NC, I traveled the northeastern part of North Carolina selling restaurant equipment for thirty-eight years before settling down in Winterville, NC. During those years I compiled many stories along with dozens of them from my childhood. Mostly humorous, they are scattered throughout this book along with dozens of new recipes. You'll find quite a few that are "heart-healthy," yes, at seventy-one, I've adjusted my eating habits to pacify Dr. Turner if no-one else. Come, read along with me enjoying the old and new recipes along with the old and new stories.

For Tori's tenth birthday, He invited her, with Jaz chaperoning, to come to America to meet her grandparents. It was the first time he'd seen them in nine years. During their visit, he and Jaz spent two nights together, rekindling a fire that had smoldered for years, while Tori visited her grandparents. His life remained in a turmoil with Barbara Ann trying desperately to win him back but Jaz wasn't giving up without a fight. She had the advantage, their daughter, Tori. She never finalized the divorce and was now an American citizen. Barbara Ann was his first love and wanted, frantically, to be his last. Becoming a civilian after 20 years in the US Air Force, he had decisions to make. Which way would he go? Down Woodland Church Road in Duplin County, or Warner-Robins AFB. Jaz and Tori were there.

This is a novel about a young couple, in love since 2nd grade. It follows them through their trials and tribulations having their deep devotion and their little angel to keep them togetherThe sun's rays warmed the upper meadow and shone brightly on the old home place that Granny Snell shared so many stories about when Joanna was a child; stories that left her and her siblings wide-eyed with wonder and amazement. Was it really like that back then? Why had times changed so much? Born in 1953, Joanna had been Dale's woman since 2nd grade and he'd been her man. Entering her apartment, Gina threw her pocketbook on the couch while walking into the kitchen popping the top off a Coors Light. After two deep swallows, she dropped into one of the chairs in the dining area. What the hell was I thinking, I knew better than to have pulled that crap. One of these days I'll finally grow up. Apparently nobody but her told the truth when they filled out those forms joining those online dating sites. Yes, she was lonely but not that damn lonely. Hell, I knew when I took the Home Economics teaching position at Jamesville High School it would be different from living in Wilmington but I needed a job. She had landed the position last May and moved into a townhouse on the banks of the Roanoke River in early August not exactly knowing what to expect, people wise, but whatever she thought, it wasn't what she found. Granted, living on the river was nice but it didn't take long to discover she was the only single living there. OK, there were a couple of old geezers that must have been a hundred years old and she won't exactly sure who or what lived in 3C. Gina had a degree and teaching certificate from UNC Wilmington and at twenty-two was ready to set the world on fire but somehow ended up a few miles from Jamesville, NC living, if you could call it that, in "Roanoke Landing," a brand new housing community, Riddick Brothers from Williamston, had recently opened. She found out very fast that what she saw during Haul Riddick's tour was one thing but living there was another thing entirely. She already wished she'd been more selective but it no longer made any difference. She'd signed the lease and was there for the duration of it. She'd just have to make the best of her "all alone" situation. With enough beer to fortify her spirits and restaurants close by in Williamston and maybe Plymouth, even Washington or Greenville, somehow she would make it. One thing she was; she was a survivor. Her five foot, two-inch slender frame with all the right things in the right places filling a size-six, a four was a little snug, perfectly enhanced by her pixie styled hair, with a red highlight, and blue eyes presented a pretty nice package...she thought so anyway and all the guys she'd left behind in New Hanover County thought so too. Problem was there wasn't anyone in this whole God forsaken place that could appreciate it but Greg, and he'd told her to get on with her life; that was the total reason she'd gotten into this screwed-up mess meeting that sex-crazed moron earlier at Ribeyes near Williamston. Why the hell couldn't she have left well enough alone? She sighed knowing the exact reason. She was stubborn, impetuous, impatient, and above all, hard-headed. She had no idea where those genes came from; neither of her parents exhibited any of her fractured attributes.

Darla is a rewrite from one of my early novels. The story was good but the editing was poor. I've learned a lot since 2011.Darla was a spoiled brat growing up in Duplin Co., NC. Pregnant at 15, she fled to Reidsville carrying her child full term but never seeing it. On her graduation day, she rode a bus to Myrtle Beach to begin new life. One she found in Chad Lambert. It was love at first sight, maybe his Beamer helped. He encouraged her to get a Real Estate License saying her would put her to work. She did and he did. She overcame every obstacle including his sister and her friend. Along with Chad, Walter and Holly, they formed "Intercoastal Properties." Chad proposed but his sister wasn't having any part of it, until...

"She Walked Through His Heart Again Today" Bob Holt Jason and Joan were like one all the way from second grade through high school. Then Joan was gone pursuing her dream of success in the world of academia. Jason floundered around afterwards marrying Carolyn on the rebound a couple of years later. The short-lived marriage produced a son, Glenn that was the only good thing to come out of the marriage. For the next decade, Jason turned his attention to growing his yard furniture and refinishing business buying a small house with a huge building out back. It was just a few miles from his Mom and Dad's located just off Hwy 55 near "downtown" Sandy Bottom N.C. Most of Jason's days were spent in his shop working on various projects while his evenings were spent downing Bud Lights by the six-pack while petting and feeding his walk-on pet cat, Samantha. All that changed when his childhood friends, Richard and Sandy, introduced him to Lisa. She blew him away and they interacted passionately either in Sandy Bottom or Lisa's camper parked in the Holiday Trav-L-Park at Emerald Isle, NC. Their relationship was like a roller coaster ride that was mostly caused by Lisa's failed marriage to the biggest "SOB" in Greene County. When they discovered that their son, Eric was gay, his father spirited him off to Hargrave Military Academy. That sent Lisa into a tail-spin that effectively ended her relationship with Jason. Joan's father died about a year later and when she returned for the funeral, she chased Jason down wanting to rekindle the relationship they once had. Jason was hesitant but knew he still loved her. She returned to CA promising to move back to eastern NC that spring. Within a couple of months all contact was lost. She'd done it to him again. Nursing his hurt, Jason fell back into his business but as before, was haunted with almost nightly visits by Joan standing at the foot of his bed in her prom dress with an out-stretched hand. The dream, or was it a nightmare, would not go away. Sandy and Richard brought Lisa back into his life a couple of years later and they picked up right where they'd left off. As their relationship flowered, Joan's nightly visits began to diminish. Then the tragedy happened and Lisa was gone. Jason was once more alone wondering what could possibly happen next.

"Quin can't ever catch a break. At the beach, on a fishing trip, or even at home eating lunch, one thing after another goes horribly--and hilariously--wrong for this unlucky kid. But it never stops Quin from waking up every morning and declaring, today's gonna be a great day! Kids will love reading just how wrong the unlucky kid will be. This graphic-novel collection of three stories has all the hallmarks of classic comics with an endearing everykid character and even a wry cat who breaks the fourth wall"--

Ultimately, she chose to join the corporation. Six years later, still not dating, Randy opened his real estate office and Lisa entered into his life. She was a perfect "Girl Friday" but with her hair swept back into a twist and always wearing glasses. He had no clue how beautiful she really was. He thought her eyes were emerald green but he couldn't be sure. John laid the sander down wiping the sweat from his forehead; she was back again. A couple of months had passed and he thought she was gone for good but here she was again. It was close to lunch so he walked out of the shop crossing the yard up the back steps onto the porch and into the kitchen. Samantha; his huge yellow tabby cat laying on the porch; raised her head for a moment opening her eyes before yawning once and returning to her slumber. The porch roof shaded her now and other than wanting a bowl of milk; she was at peace with the world. It was early June and John knew the air conditioner would have to be turned on soon. The oscillating fan sitting on the counter kept the air stirred and it felt good each time it made a pass.John had just turned 36 last week and the boys in his hunting club threw a big bash to celebrate. They'd all got pretty wasted before the party broke up. Everyone but him and Jesse were married and he was so close; he might as well have been. They spent time together mostly fishing and hunting and before June Ann set her hooks into him; they'd go out to eat and party at the American Legion Hut on Saturday nights. She'd put an end to that.John was tall and lanky just over 6 foot with blond hair cropped short. He'd been told more times than one his blue eyes and sexy smile could get him any gal and for the most part it had; all but the one he thought he wanted. After throwing together a ham and cheese sandwich; he opened a Pepsi and sat at the kitchen table. Musing, he thought about Jeannie. She was the one that kept popping up in his mind; sometimes at night and other times during the day when he was right in the middle of something like a while ago...Bam! she was back again. He and Jeannie were like they were glued together all through high school but that all went to "hell on a hayride" when she left for Appalachian State that fall. She'd been gone what seemed like 20 years and he hadn't heard anything from her; not one word since the Dear John letter. He'd moved on marrying Delilah on the rebound but it had only lasted a year. She was a witch from hell. The only thing good that came out of the marriage was their son. Glenn and he only saw him maybe once a month.John's life only had one way to go and that was up but when would it start. A call from Lynn and Nan might offer that opportunity. It did for a little while at least but then it happened.Would he ever find his true love? One that didn't disappear. Was she out there?

There she was doing it again. Every time she walked out into the corridor or into the dining room, she did a complete scan looking for him and she didn't understand why. They'd never spoken or even been introduced. At 33, Lisa Ann Tripp looked nice enough, and sexy too, to command anyone's attention. She was 5 foot-6 inches tall with auburn tresses that fell on and below her shoulders, emerald eyes and a special smile that would make anyone think they were special. Yes, she was still hurting from her recent breakup but, Trey Dulany, the object of her affection, she thought she wanted him to be, worked in the employee pharmacy, on the opposite side of the long corridor, as an assistant at Vidant Medical Center. She'd done her homework knowing that he was single, and he'd been in the pharmacy 7 years. Before that, ECU and was still enrolled there. The magic happened and unbelievably, by Christmas, they were engaged to be married come next June. He'd be at VCU in Richmond, VA for 5 months finishing his degree work. Then he could take the state test and be licensed as a pharmacist. Everything was falling in place, her Mountain Man, he was from Asheville, would be hers but she made a surprise visit in late March finding him at Nate's with that woman!

At the first opportunity, Max Howard left the farm he grew up on near Pink Hill, NC. Armed with 2 years of college from LCC in Kinston, NC and his Real Estate Salesman's license, he moved to Arapahoe, NC wanting to be near the water. It took a year of waiting tables before Ray Brinson gave him a shot at selling real estate and he proved immediately he could sell becoming the top producer as he beat the highways and back roads of Pamlico county searching for FSBO's (for sale by owner). The locals realized he could be trusted and called him constantly, trusting him to handle their real estate needs. He dated occasionally, living frugally, in a very small rental house on Seafarer Road for 8 or 9 years not wanting to get involved romantically, but enjoying casual relationships with each year's new crop of summer waitresses. On one of his forays, he chanced on the house of his dreams and made an offer to the New Jersey couple that had built it to retire in but found it much, much too quiet and tranquil for their lifestyles. They'd posted a FSBO out front and left. He stole it when they accepted his second counter. What followed was like a merry-go-round settling into his new gabled, 4 level home, complete with an elevator, on the banks of the Neuse River at its confluence with the Pamlico Sound, meeting Candi, the girl of his dreams, becoming involved with the Jernigans at Janiero wanting to build a sub-division on their property, and picking up listing after listing in the Oriental, NC area as property values sky-rocketed with Oriental becoming the sailboat capital of the east coast. Now in business for himself, with his marriage to Candi just a few weeks away, tragedy struck knocking him off his heel's leaving him with an emptiness, wondering if it could ever be overcome................

I began collecting recipes while watching my Mom preparing meals. She allowed me to help but only allowed me to watch most of the time. When she made cakes, we were all there to lick off the spoon and bowl. There were six of us kids but most times, we all got to taste. As the years went by, she allowed me to participate more and more. By the time I was in high school, my sisters and I cooked most of the meals and became good cooks. We each had our favorite recipes and used them constantly. We still do. I'm a country cook and enjoy the foods I grew up with. Over the years I've added many recipes to my collection but still prefer the old timey ways of preparation although I must admit, Crock Pots are wonderful. Mama's life would have been so much simpler if she'd had one. Go with me now as I walk down my path of delicious memories and share some of my Mom's, sister's, daughter's, and Bob's recipes

Kayla, stood, holding the invitation to her class reunion It had been thirty years since she'd graduated from high school and not once, had she attended a reunion. Why attend this one? There wasn't any good reason except Brian Howard. They'd been sweethearts since fourth grade. It was mostly innocent until high school. That's when it began to get serious. Their bodies were changing and it wasn't going unnoticed by either. By the eleventh grade, he was proposing but she wanted no part of getting married right out of high school and having a family. She wanted to leave and see what was on the other side of the Duplin County line. Staying put the first two years out of high school, she attended James Sprunt in Kenansville before leaving to continue her education at ECU. When she told him that she was leaving, he threw a fit telling her that she had no business running off. She needed to marry him and stay put. She guessed that she got a little ugly towards him, maybe a lot. She was leaving and that was that. Everything was different in Greenville and soon after her arrival, she was swept off her feet by Jeff Harris from Opelika, Alabama. By Thanksgiving, he'd proposed and she'd accepted. The following spring, they were married and living in a townhouse. They still had another semester before graduating but money wasn't a problem with Jeff. Two years and two children later, Jeff's wondering eyes got him into trouble and Kayla divorced him saying that she was done with men. She's raise her two children without a man in her life and that's the way it remained for the next twenty-two years until Lynn came into her life sweeping her off her feet and opening up long pent-up desires for a man's love. It lasted for two years until an accident swept him away from her and she was alone again saying that she would wait for him. Now, another two years had slipped by and she was still alone and unloved. Maybe she'd go to the reunion, Brian Howard might be there. Had he married and like her, divorced? Maybe he'd never married? Maybe he was still waiting for her?

Janie arrived in Myrtle Beach after graduating from high school in Reidsville, NC, where she had been self-exiled for the past three years arriving pregnant but not nearly as belligerent as her earlier years. She had been one spoiled brat. After a boring year waitressing at Captain John's on Ocean Blvd; her Robert Redford walked into the restaurant sweeping her completely off her feet. Not only was he good looking; he was driving a white 325i BMW convertible. Over the next few months they began dating and Jerry insisted she take the real estate course and become licensed. She returned home for a visit to eastern NC after a four year absence being welcomed with open arms by her family; a welcome she hadn't dared to dream was possible. She lost her father during real estate school but Jerry and her Myrtle Beach family supported her during the ordeal. Intercoastal Properties became a reality in late October and Janie was one of the four equal shareholders. A dream she never could have believed possible; especially the way it did. Jerry, the love of her life, Walter, and Holly were the other shareholders. Mother and Father Lambert had given them millions of dollars of property listings to get the new corporation off the ground. On a trip to Key West over the Thanksgiving holidays, Jerry proposed and they planned to marry the following March. Jerry's Sister Anna and girlfriend, Tiffany made every attempt to stop the wedding. In early March Anna called Janie saying they needed to meet before the wedding plans went any further. Janie met them at a restaurant in Southside being confronted with every detail about Janie's past including the unwanted pregnancy saying if Janie didn't put a halt to the wedding she would gave Mother and Father Lambert the file. Anna, with Tiffany smiling broadly, pointed her finger at Janie saying; "I think it's time for you to get your "Country Ass out of town!"
