Auguste Groner (1850-1929) war eine österreichische Schriftstellerin. Sie veröffentlichte auch unter den Pseudonymen Olaf Björnson, A. von der Paura, Renorga und Metis. Zunächst schrieb die produktive und vielseitige Feuilletonschriftstellerin Rätselgedichte, Jugend- und historische Heimaterzählungen. Für ihr Werk wurde sie bereits 1893 von der Literarischen Abteilung der Weltausstellung in Chicago geehrt. Seit 1890 erschienen auch zahlreiche Kriminalerzählungen und -Romane, die teilweise ins Skandinavische und Englische übersetzt wurden. Groner erfand den ersten Seriendetektiv der deutschsprachigen Literatur, Joseph Müller, der das erste Mal in der Erzählung Die goldene Kugel erscheint, die erstmals 1892 veröffentlicht wurde. Aus dem Buch: "Sie sind schon wieder gereizt. Ihre Braut kam im Verlauf unserer Unterhaltung ganz von selbst darauf zu sprechen, daß sie mit Ihnen einen Teil des Abends verbrachte, und dabei äußerte sie, daß sie fürchte, Sie seien krank, da Sie sonst doch schon durch die Zeitungen wissen müßten, was geschehen sei. Sie seien aber heute noch nicht zu ihr gekommen. Bei dieser Gelegenheit ließ sie durchblicken, daß sie beide der Tante wegen des Hochzeitsaufschubes schon längere Zeit zürnten, und daß Sie gestern noch eine harte Bemerkung über Frau Schubert machten."
