The book is a comprehensive exploration of spiritual concepts, drawing from various sources including Eastern and Western philosophy, occultism, and mysticism. It is a follow-up to Helena Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine, which Waite believed required further elaboration and clarification. The Higher Secret Doctrine is divided into three parts. The first part provides an overview of theosophical principles, exploring topics such as the nature of the divine, the evolution of the universe, and the role of humanity in the cosmic scheme. The second part delves into the symbolism and allegory of various spiritual traditions, including Christianity, Hinduism, and Kabbalah. The third part is a detailed analysis of The Secret Doctrine, with Waite offering his own interpretation and commentary on Blavatsky's work. The book is written in a scholarly and erudite style, with Waite drawing on his extensive knowledge of esoteric literature and philosophy. It is a challenging read, requiring a certain level of familiarity with theosophical concepts and terminology. We have thousands of titles available, and we invite you to search for us by name, contact us via our website, or download our most recent catalogues. I am about to set forth after a new manner, and chiefly for the use of English mystics, the nature of the mystery which is enshrined in the old romance-literature of the Holy Graal. As a literature it can be approached from several standpoints; and at the root it has a direct consanguinity with other mysteries, belonging to the more secret life of the soul. I propose to give a very full account of all the considerations which it involves, the imperfect speculations included of some who have preceded me in the same path, writers whose interests at a far distance are not utterly dissimilar to my own, though their equipment has been all too slight. I shall endeavour to establish at the end that there are certain things in transcendence which must not be sought in the literature, and yet they arise out of it. The task will serve, among several objects, two which may be put on record at the moment--on the one hand, and quite obviously, to illustrate the deeper intimations of Graal literature, and, on the other, certain collateral intimations which lie behind the teachings of the great churches and are, in the official sense, as if beyond their ken. Of such intimations is all high seership. The task itself has been undertaken as the initial consequence of several first-hand considerations.

Waite argues that this idea can be reconciled with Christian theology, and that there are many similarities between the two. He examines the works of various Christian mystics and philosophers, including Meister Eckhart and Jacob Boehme, and shows how their ideas can be seen as pantheistic. Waite also discusses the relationship between pantheism and the concept of the Holy Spirit, and how this can be understood in a Christian context. The book is written in a scholarly style and includes extensive footnotes and references. It is a thought-provoking exploration of the intersection of two seemingly opposing ideas and will be of interest to anyone interested in theology, philosophy, or mysticism.THIS 18 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Lamps of Western Mysticism, by Arthur Edward Waite. We have thousands of titles available, and we invite you to search for us by name, contact us via our website, or download our most recent catalogues. The Hermetic Mystery, upon the higher interpretation of which I have spoken at considerable length in the previous paper and have created an analogy between its hidden meaning and that which I should term the centre of the Religions Mystery in Christendom, is the only branch of mystic and occult literature which lent itself to the decorative sense. I suppose that there are few people comparatively who at this day have any notion of the extent to which that sense was developed in the books of the adepts. It will be understood that in speaking now upon this subject I am leaving my proper path, but though the fact does not seem to have been registered, it is so utterly curious to note how a literature which is most dark and inscrutable of all has at the same time its lighter side, a side, indeed, of pleasant inventions, of apologue, of parable, of explicit enigma, above all of poetry.
