322,95 - 485,95 kr. 1888. Forbes, a brilliant war correspondent, spent his later years in literary work. Here he turns his attention to telling the story of the splendid events and heroism through which King William of Prussia was enabled to win unity for Germany, and for himself and his heirs the proud dignity of German Emperor. Forbes had the opportunity, during the Franco-German war, of accompanying King William on the campaign through Alsace and Lorraine, up to the walls of Paris, and his account of that portion of the dead Emperor's life has, consequently, great value, as being not only the work of an historian, but of a special correspondent, fitted by long training and natural ability to give pictures of the great scenes he witnessed with artistic and thrilling accuracy. 258,95 kr. ""Camps, Quarters and Casual Places"" is a book written by Archibald Forbes, a British journalist and war correspondent who covered numerous conflicts in the late 19th century. The book is a collection of Forbes' experiences and observations from his travels to various military camps and battlefields around the world. It provides a detailed account of the living conditions, routines, and daily life of soldiers in different parts of the world during the late 1800s. The book also explores the impact of war on civilians, particularly those who live near conflict zones. Forbes' vivid descriptions and personal anecdotes offer a unique perspective on the human side of war, making this book a valuable resource for historians, military enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the history of warfare.None of the greater rivers of Scotland makes so much haste to reach the ocean as does the turbulent and impatient Spey. From its parent lochlet in the bosom of the Grampians it speeds through Badenoch, the country of Cluny MacPherson, the chief of Clan Chattan, a region to this day redolent of memories of the '45. It abates its hurry as its current skirts the grave of the beautiful Jean Maxwell, Duchess of Gordon, who raised the 92nd Highlanders by giving a kiss with the King's shilling to every recruit, and who now since many long years. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. 342,95 kr. Archibald Forbes (17 April 1838 - 30 March 1900) was a British war correspondent, the son of a Presbyterian minister in Morayshire, Scotland; educated at the University of Aberdeen. Entering the Royal Dragoons as a private, he gained, while in the service, considerable practical experience of military life and affairs. Being invalided from his regiment, he settled in London, and became a journalist. When the Franco-Prussian War broke out in 1870, Forbes was sent to the front as war correspondent, and in this capacity he gained valuable information as to the plans of the Parisians for withstanding a siege. Transferring his services to the Daily News, his brilliant feats in the transmission of intelligence drew worldwide attention to his dispatches. He was with the German army from the beginning of the campaign, and he afterwards witnessed the rise and fall of the Paris Commune. Thereafter, Forbes proceeded to Spain, where he chronicled the outbreak of the second Carlist War; but his work here was interrupted by a visit to India, where he spent eight months upon a mission of investigation into the Bengal famine of 1873-74. Then he returned to Spain, and followed at various times the Carlist, the Republican and the Alfonsist forces. As representative of the Daily News, he accompanied the Prince of Wales in his tour through India in 1875-1876. Forbes went through the Serbian campaign of 1876, and was present at all the important engagements.
