88,95 kr. A Methuen Student Edition of Chekhov's classic play in Michael Frayn's acclaimed translation. When it opened in St Petersburg in 1896, The Seagull survived only five performances after a disastrous first night. Two years later it was revived by Nemirovich-Danchenko at the newly-founded Moscow Art Theatre with Stanslasky as Trigorin and was an immediate success. Checkhov's description of the play was characteristically self-mocking: "A comedy - 3F, 6M, four acts, rural scenery (a view over a lake); much talk of literature, little action, five bushels of love".

123,95 kr. The Sea-Gull Anton Checkov A Play In Four Acts New Edition The Seagull is a play by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov, written in 1895 and first produced in 1896. The Seagull is generally considered to be the first of his four major plays. It dramatises the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters: the famous middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin, the ingenue Nina, the fading actress Irina Arkadina, and her son the symbolist playwright Konstantin Treplev. The character of Trigorin is considered Chekhov's greatest male role, though, like Chekhov's other full-length plays, The Seagull relies upon an ensemble cast of diverse, fully developed characters. In contrast to the melodrama of mainstream 19th-century theatre, lurid actions (such as Konstantin's suicide attempts) are not shown onstage. Characters tend to speak in ways that skirt around issues rather than addressing them directly; in other words, their lines are full of what is known in dramatic practice as subtext, or text that is not spoken aloud.

153,95 kr. "The Sea-Gull" is a play written by Anton Chekhov, one of the most influential writers of the modern era. The play was first performed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1896, and it is a tragicomedy that explores themes of love, art, and the human condition. The play is set on a country estate owned by a wealthy landowner, Sorin, where his family and friends have gathered for the summer. The main characters are Konstantin, Sorin's nephew, an aspiring playwright, and Nina, a young actress who dreams of stardom. Konstantin is in love with Nina, but she is drawn to Trigorin, a famous writer who is visiting the estate. The play explores the complicated relationships between these characters, as well as their individual struggles with identity, love, and art. Konstantin is obsessed with creating a new form of theater that he believes will revolutionize the art form, but his attempts are met with ridicule and rejection. Nina, meanwhile, is torn between her love for Konstantin and her desire for Trigorin, and her dreams of stardom are threatened by the harsh realities of the entertainment industry.

63,95 kr. "Try to reason about love, and you will lose your reason." -- Anton Chekhov Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), possibly the greatest writer of short stories, examines the human condition of love in eleven tales of romance. Included in the collection is one of his best-known works-- "The Lady with the Dog," said to be a reflection of the author's romance with an actress, Olga Knipper, whom he would eventually marry. Chekhov demonstrates one of his primary artistic principles by focusing on character rather than plot to reveal the subtle profundities of love. Exposing his audience to a variety of viewpoints, the Russian author refrains from the moral precepts of love and dares his audience to commit emotional honesty. From the observing narrator of "Agafya" and the nonstop dialogue at a fabric store between a spurned shop clerk and a dressmaker ("Polinka") to the awakened memory of boyhood confusion over the power of physical attraction ("The Beauties"), Chekhov explores the psychology of human affection and its obstacles.
