In the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner's birth on 4 September 1824, Laanshøj Publishers continues our e-book series with facsimile editions of conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler's scores with all his notes and instructions. This time we present the score for Bruckner's 5th Symphony, which Furtwängler acquired around 1920. This is the first commercial print, edited by Franz Schalk and published in 1896 by the Doblinger publishing house in Vienna. The score, a gift from the conductor's widow, Elisabeth Furtwängler, to The Wilhelm Furtwängler Society of America, through its president, Dade Thieriot, was kindly made available to the publisher by him.During his career, Furtwängler conducted the work 28 times between 1919 and 1951. Two concert recordings of the symphony with Furtwängler conducting the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, respectively, have been released, both based on the score published by Robert Haas in 1935.

Damit kann dieses klangvolle Repertoire auch von gemischten Chören aufgeführt werden. Auch zwei originale SATB-Kompositionen sind enthalten. Weiterhin präsentiert das Chorbuch Chorarrangements von ursprünglich klavierbegleiteten Sololiedern, u.a. mit Texten von Heinrich Heine und Emanuel Geibel. Besonders hervorzuheben ist auch eine Bearbeitung des Adagios aus Bruckners Streichquintett WAB 112, das Heribert Breuer für Chor arrangiert und mit einem Text von Georg Trakl versehen hat.

Composed in 1892 as he he was working on his ninth symphony, Psalm 150 is Bruckner''s final sacred work. The composer had set various psalms over the course of his career before finally turning to the very last of the Book of Psalms, No.150. It is one of the most musical of all, invoking a veritable orchestra of percussion, wind, and string instruments to join the people''s voices in praise of God with music and dance. The matching large conductor score and orchestral parts for this vocal score are also available from Serenissima Music.
