208,95 kr. Andrew Lang, a Scottish anthropologist and folklorist, wrote the landmark work "Myth, Ritual, and Religion," Volume 1. This work contributes significantly to anthropology and religious studies. In this volume, Lang investigates the interdependence of myth, ritual, and theology in a variety of cultures and communities. He delves into myths and rituals from various civilizations, including ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, and indigenous cultures. Lang studies how myths and rituals can commonly play an important role in molding a society's religious beliefs and practices. He investigates the symbolic value of myths and rituals, emphasizing their role in understanding the mysteries of life, death, and the natural world. Lang's work is notable for its comparative technique, which connects nations in order to discover universal themes and patterns in myth and ritual. He contends that these traditions and ceremonies are not merely historical relics, but they continue to influence present religious¿ practices and ideals. Some stories are brutal and weird, while others creep up on you and draw you in slowly. With an eye-catching new cover and professionally typeset copy, this edition of "Myth, Ritual, and Religion Vol. 1" is both current and intelligible.

93,95 kr. The plot of Prince Prigio begins with the introduction of a queen who does not believe in fairies. After many childless years, she and the king finally had a boy, Prigio. When the queen refused to invite the fairies to the christening, none of the nobles would attend, and so the king and queen were alone when the fairies arrived and presented the child with gifts. Among the gifts were a never-empty purse (the purse of Fortunatus), seven-league boots, a cap of darkness which would make him invisible, a wishing cap, a magic carpet, and also beauty, courage, and luck, but the last fairy decreed, "My child, you shall be too clever!" This would have pleased the queen, but she did not believe it. She had all the items swept into a lumber room. The prince grew up to be too clever. He would argue with everyone and knew better than everyone. He had two younger brothers, neither of whom was clever, and both of whom were liked; they fell in love with their cousins. The king particularly disliked Prigio, fearing he would claim the throne, and wanted to be rid of him. One day, a firedrake appeared in the country; the king was sorry that it would kill his second son as well as his first before the youngest son killed it, but he would sacrifice him to be rid of Prigio. Prigio, like his mother, refused to believe in its existence and reminded him that it was the youngest son who triumphed, so they should send him at once.

118,95 kr. Magic and Religion is a classic religious studies text by Andrew Lang. Recent years have brought rich additions to the materials for the study of early religion, ritual, magic, and myth. In proportion to the abundance of information has been the growth of theory and hypothesis. The first essay in this collection, 'Science and Superstition, ' points out the danger of allowing too ingenious and imaginative hypotheses to lead captive our science.

173,95 kr. The earliest of his publications is Custom and Myth (1884). In Myth, Ritual and Religion (1887) he explained the "irrational" elements of mythology as survivals from more primitive forms. Lang's Making of Religion was heavily influenced by the 18th century idea of the "noble savage": in it, he maintained the existence of high spiritual ideas among so-called "savage" races, drawing parallels with the contemporary interest in occult phenomena in England. His Blue Fairy Book (1889) was a beautifully produced and illustrated edition of fairy tales that has become a classic. This was followed by many other collections of fairy tales, collectively known as Andrew Lang's Fairy Books. In the preface of the Lilac Fairy Book he credits his wife with translating and transcribing most of the stories in the collections.[4] Lang examined the origins of totemism in Social Origins (1903).

On my side it is "about" the veracity of Sir Walter Scott. He has been suspected of helping to compose, and of issuing as a genuine antique, a ballad, Auld Maitland. He also wrote about the ballad, as a thing obtained from recitation, to two friends and fellow-antiquaries. If to Scott's knowledge it was a modern imitation, Sir Walter deliberately lied.
