Johann Beer (1655-1700) gilt in der Literaturgeschichte der Fruhen Neuzeit als der begabteste Nachfolger Hans Jacob Christoffel von Grimmelshausens und zugleich als eines der groen Erzahltalente einer barocken und grotesken Menschlichkeit. Der musikalisch begabte Autor, dessen Eltern als Protestanten fruh aus Osterreich vertrieben wurden, erhielt eine grundliche musikalische Ausbildung im Benediktinerkloster in Lambach 1662-1665 und bei den Augustiner Chorherren in Reichersberg 1665-1669. Diese Ausbildung und das damit einhergehende Nebeneinander protestantischer und katholischer Traditionen sollte den Autor bis ans Ende seines Lebens deutlich pragen. Neben seiner Tatigkeit als Musiker und Musiktheoretiker in Weienfels verfat er mehr als zwanzig langere und kurzere Erzahltexte, die durch eine ungewohnliche Mischung aus brillanten Realitatspartikeln, grotesken Details, Obszonitaten und einem von Anfang bis Ende durchgehaltenen Willen zur padagogischen Belehrung charakterisiert sind. Die vorliegende Monographie versucht, die Vielgestaltigkeit seines Werks und dessen zum Teil paradoxen Konstruktionen durch eine narratologische Analyse miteinander vergleichbar zu machen. Es stellt sich dabei heraus, da Beer durch sein ganzes Werk hindurch Losungsentwurfe fur das Problem der Integration von delectare und prodesse formuliert, wobei er zwischen den Extremen misogyner Satire und rhetorisch ausgefeilter Erzahlstrategie in padagogischer Absicht oszilliert.
