Barbara Grimes was the older of the two Grimes sisters, her full name was Barbara Jeanne Grimes and she was born on the warm day of May 5, 1941. It was only a short few years before her younger sister Patricia Kathleen Grimes was born on, December 31, 1943. The girls were only two of the seven Grimes children. Their siblings described Barbara and Patricia as being inseparable, the best of friends. They attended Thomas Kelly High School and St. Maurice high school where they were said to be attentive, smart young girls. These two girls were crushing on the heartthrob, Elvis Presley. They couldn't get enough of his music, especially his latest hit, Love Me Tender, a movie they had seen in theater almost 14 times. On the night of December 17, 1956 Patricia and Barbara Grimes took the journey to Chicago's Brighton Theater to see Love Me Tender, just like they had many times before. Both girls begged their mother, Lorretta, to let them take the bus to the theatre. No one knew that this would be the last time anyone would ever see the two sisters again.

Heather Elvis was a native of Horry County and she was a graduate of St. James High School in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. After her graduation in the year 2011, Heather moved into an apartment in Carolina Forest. She shared this apartment with her best friend and coworker, Brianna Warrelmann. Heather was making a living by waitressing at the Tilter Kilt in Myrtle Beach and The House of Blue's in North Myrtle Beach. During her time as a waitress, she was pursuing her studies in cosmetology. According to Heather's father, her cosmetology license "was her way of giving back, and making others feel good about themselves". Heather was leading a seemingly ordinary life up until the night of her disappearance on December 17, 2013.

At nineteen years of age, Brittney Jane Dwyer developed an obsession with horror movies and television shows. Brittney has always a taste for violence and the darker side of life, but her family never noticed a lack of empathy. She grew up with a stable household and loving family. "She was a strong-willed, adventures, tom-boy growing up," says her mother Tonya Dwyer. During her high school years, she developed a close bond with a school friend named Shelby Lee Holmes, but she spent the majority of her time alone. Brittney isolated herself as a teenager and did not fit in with a popular crowd. Brittney seemed to be a relatively normal girl up until she became addicted to drugs and murdered her eighty-one-year-old grandfather in cold blood.
