Most people have never even heard of mini farming. The reason? It's really just not that popular as of yet. But just like a lot of other things (bell-bottom jeans, Mohawks and rap music) it's coming into its own. The reason is that regular farming is starting to become a problem for a lot of people. It's just so difficult to make a living as a full-fledged farmer because there's so much work involved and not enough demand for it. The big time farmers, the ones that once were able to sustain large farms and take care of their entire family are having trouble making ends meet. Part of the reason for that is mini farming but most of it is the lack of business available in larger markets. Major farmers are trying to compete with other major farmers for markets like grocery stores and that's a really difficult market to break into. If you start mini farming however, the only people you're going to be competing against are the other local farmers in your area. What you'll usually find is that there's plenty of people looking for locally grown products and not quite enough people who are selling them. So this can actually be a pretty profitable niche for you.

Do you own or manage a bar or club, or are you planning to do so? Would you like to maximise competitive advantage, revenues, profits, cash flow, longevity, and return-on-investment? All bars and clubs go through the same operational life cycle: (1) honeymoon period, (2) optional plateau, (3) long slow decline, followed by (4) death. Some venues go through their entire life cycle (1)-(4) in less than a year, others operate profitably for decades, but ALL venues ultimately fail (via 3 and 4) sooner or later. From a pure investment perspective, the only differences between venues are (a) longevity (total timescale from 1 to 4), and (b) return-on-investment (net profit or loss over the entire life cycle divided by the total amount invested). Most first-time bar and club owners will fail to recoup their investments over the course of their venue's life cycle, simply because the honeymoon period (1) was too short, the plateau phase (2) was non-existent, the onset of the decline-to-death phase (3) was too insidious, and its jaws were too powerful. Even those who beat the odds and hit upon an initially successful formula will most likely find their success ultimately frustrated by the same symptoms. This book examines HOW VENUES FAIL, in particular what causes them to slowly decline to death via (3) and (4). This information is then developed into an overall strategy designed to DELAY the inevitable decline-to-death phase (3) for as long as possible, maximising competitive advantage, revenues, profits, and cash flow (during phases 1, 2, and even 3) in the process, in the hope that venue owners will at least break-even over the course of their venue's lifetime, and ideally make a satisfactory net profit.

The distinction between ancient and modern modes of historical thought is characterized by the growing complexity of the discipline of history in modernity. Consequently, the epistemological and methodological standard of ancient historiography is typically held as inferior against the modern ideal. This book serves to address this apparent deficit. Its scope is three-fold. Firstly, it aims at encountering ancient modes of historical and historiographical thought within the province of their own horizon. Secondly, this book considers the possibility of a dialogue between ancient and modern philosophies of history concerning the influence of ancient historical thought on the development of modern philosophy of history and the utility of modern philosophy of history in the interpretation of ancient historiography. Thirdly, this book explores the continuities and discontinuities in historical method and thought from antiquity to modernity. Ultimately, this volume demonstrates the necessity of re-evaluating our assumptions about the relation of ancient and modern historical thought and lays the groundwork for a more fruitful dialogue in the future.
