The Zeppelin's Passenger is a tale of German espionage in England during World War I. Dreymarsh is a fictional "backwater" area in England with no apparent military value. The story begins with Dreymarsh residents discovering an observation car from a German zeppelin along with a Homburg hat near Dreymarsh. The mystery is further complicated when an Englishman, Mr. Hamar Lessingham, presents himself at Mainsail Haul which is the residence of Sir Henry Cranston. Lessingham bears with him, hand carried letters from Major Richard Halstead, and a British prisoner of war in Germany. He presents them to Halstead's sister, Phillipa and Helen, Halstead's fiancée who have had no word of Richard's fate and are deeply concerned. Phillipa, Sir Henry's wife, is smitten with Lessingham, after Sir Henry appears to her to be a coward since he will not become involved in the war effort. Lessingham appears to be the perfect gentlemen but he is not who he pretends to be. Eventually, Phillipa and Helen discover that the delivery of Halstead's letters come with a price. All becomes clear near the end to discover the secret of Lessingham, Sir Henry, and Mainsail Haul.

  • - One In 70 Million

    223,95 kr.

Few crime memoirs are written with the brand of raw honesty Armand "The Chairman" Moore reveals in The Heist that Shook a Nation: 1 in 70 Million. It has been more than thirty years since Moore, son of a southern preacher, gave in to his lust for earthly riches by plotting one of the boldest thefts in banking history. His book begins with emotion-filled memories of his first day as a free man, having served a taxing thirty-year sentence for what was nearly a successful seventy-million-dollar crime. Moore is plagued by flashbacks of murder, racist corrections officers and other horrors he encountered behind federal prison gates. Pages later, he delves into a childhood spent in Memphis where he recognizes have-nots in whose category he vows never to remain. Along the fascinating path Moore travels are once-in-a-lifetime encounters with a young Michael Jackson and the prince of Wales. In stark contrast to such golden moments, Moore describes how he positioned himself to operate on the fringes of Detroit's drug game as a supporting, but key, player. The Heist that Shook a Nation concludes with newly revealed details of the crime that made international news, as told by the man described as a criminal "mastermind," manipulator and evil genius. Moore's truth is unapologetic, yet moving, as he makes the case that power is often gained at a costly price.

  • af Bob Graham
    1.073,95 kr.

Robert Graham was born a Presbyterian and raised in the Bible Belt. At 27 he drove from the San Francisco Bay Area south on Interstate Five, destination Hollywood. He had no idea what was about to happen, or how his prayer to be an actor would end. A classic example of a first-degree murder case from 1984 in Hollywood. Opening and closing arguments show how one LAPD officer's simple mistake turned a self-defense into a murder, and how well the Public Defender defended his client.

  • - Political-Criminal Collaboration Around the World
    af Roy Godson
    1.488,95 kr.

One of the more dangerous contemporary threats to the quality of life is the collaboration of the political establishment with the criminal underworld - the political-criminal nexus (PCN). This active partnership increasingly undermines the rule of law, human rights, and economic development in many parts of the world. States in transition are especially at risk. Despite the magnitude of the threat, there is little understanding of the security threats by the PCNs and how and why political-criminal relationships are formed and maintained. Menace to Society is the first attempt to develop an analytical framework for making generalizations about this contemporary scourge. Case studies of Colombia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia and Ukraine, and the United States by leading scholars and practitioners included here answer such key questions as: How do PCNs get established? How is a PCN maintained, and destroyed? What do the participants want from each other in a PCN? What can be learned from those who have successfully countered the PCN? The findings indicate that political, economic, and cultural factors play a significant role in the formation and evolution of PCNs. When the institutions of the state are weak, as in Nigeria and Colombia, it is difficult for the state to prevent political-criminal collaboration. A lack of checks and balances, either from civil society or opposition political parties such as described in the cases of Mexico and Russia, is a key factor. Cultural patterns tend to facilitate this kind of collaboration. Markets and economics, too, bear on the PCN issue. The supply and demand for illegal goods and services, not only drugs, in many countries creates a market controlled by criminals who need political help to "run" their business. Menance to Society will be critical reading for security planners, foreign and military policymakers, and political scientists.

  • - How to expose a deceptive murderess.
    af D J Richards
    1.043,95 kr.

Sociopathic and psychopathic tendency murderers and murderesses seem to miss all of the normal attitudes towards the repercussions and consequences of their 'acts' of murder. Those murderers and murderesses seem not to care about punishment for the murders they commit. Those types of murderers and murderesses also seem to have some kind of a strange need to murder their victims, {Their victims, are usually deceitfully and deceptively tricked, trapped and jammed up through or into an entrapment to be murdered.} The sociopathic or psychopathic murder their victims, no matter what the consequences, punishment, karma or results of their murderous act. There are some behavioral and forensic psychologists and psychiatrists, criminologists, pathologists, neuroscientists and sociologists who have been researching the field of the minds of sociopathic and psychopathic murderers and murderesses to determine what are the major factors, in, or of the criminal murderer or murderess mind which led them to choose and/to murder their victims. The research also encompasses what's in their murderous behavioral profiles, cause or causes especially the sociopathic and psychopathic murderers and murderesses to develop their compulsion to carry out, or to carry through with their cold blooded, or even hot blooded murder, or to kill their murdered victims. Often with no real sense of inhibitions in their moral compass. Those types of sociopathic and psychopathic murderers and murderesses far too often seem to think, that their murders are justified, or that they have a right to commit it, no matter what the consequences of it might be...

  • - 3-19 Shooting Re-examined

    200,95 kr.

On March 19, 2004, the day before the Presidential Election Day, President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Lu Hsiu-lien were shut by bullets. The shooting incident shocked Taiwan's democracy and to a great degree ripped Taiwan's society. As of today, the official investigation reports are still unconvinced, leaving various questions unsolved. Is Chen Yi-hsiung the shooter? Any accomplices? What are the motives? Why did the national security agencies act so ludicrously? Could it be planned and directed by the President? As former Vice President and the victim of the incident, Lu Hsiu-lien examines the Control Yuan document impeaching national security and police officials, the Criminal Investigation Bureau's special investigation report, the Tainan District Prosecutors Office report, and the 319 Truth Investigation Commission's report, as well as statements by President Chen Shui-bian, and includes her own firsthand account in details. In an attempt to identify areas of doubt and to find possible explanation, the book juxtaposes the overlapping and contradictory viewpoints of the incident given by the various reports with Lu's personal eyewitness of that day.Lu Hsiu-lien has reviewed over the points of the cartridge, the gunman, whether the two bullets came from one or two guns, the negligence by national security agencies, and the would-be assassin's possible motive. She also criticizes national security agencies' crisis management. She lists and analyzes four possibilities of the assassin identified as red (China), blue (the pan-blue political camp), green (the pan-green camp), and black (mafia and gambling syndicates). In conclusion, Lu Hsiu-lien calls on the Special Investigation Division to overturn the previous conclusion. Instead, it should take up the suggestions presented in this book to break through its blind spots on this case, proceed boldly, ignore blue/green political divisions, and seek out reality. This will bring honor to the judiciary and good fortune to Taiwan.

BASKING ON INSANITY BEACHJock is in control, master of all he surveys. All his life he has tormented people, casting their damaged souls adrift in his wake. Now retired he has a new focus on life, as a self righteous Chairman of a Body Corporation that runs 36 Units in a little suburb call Beachview. With years of practised domestic espionage behind him he sets out to maliciously sabotage every tenant he dislikes. When will the forces of Karma finally accumulate enough to teach him his lesson? Has he trodden on enough toes to receive the retaliation he so richly deserves? Is mere vengeance enough, or is he staring in the face of annihilation?Basking on Insanity Beach is based on a true story David Zachary Smith was personally involved in. To protect the anonymity of the people involved their names and places of residence are fictitious. Australia 1986/87: Ian decides he's going to buy an investment property in a little suburb called Beachview. A home loan at 13.5% secures the deal. So $65,500 later Ian owns his unit and the bonus is there's tenants already in place and enthusiastic to stay. Sounds simple? Get the tenants to pay off the loan and real estate should double in price every 10 years. But there's always a catch!Basking on Insanity Beach is laid out to a beach theme. The Beach being the group of Units and every chapter is related to each character and situation. Based around interesting times in Australia's history, Bob Hawke the most popular labor party prime minister of all time had the Treasurer Paul Keating eyeing his job. Then came the stock market crash. Paul Keating announced the recession we had to have. So financially most people started going downhill...fast!Basking on Insanity Beach probes domestic crime, family violence and control and shows what depths we all go to in retaliation. But how far do you go? Is there a limit whereby you become worse than the perpetrator? This book exposes an even greater underlying problem. It's one we still have.David Zachary Smith had related this story to many people over the years. Most people were fascinated with his account of his run in with a seemingly harmless little old disabled man. So almost 25 years later he decided to write this book and its still his most popular publication to date. You'll find this book an Easy Read only problem is once you start you won't be able to put it down! (c)David Zachary Smith 2013

The tan, dark haired young man sat and watched the made-for-TV miniseries. The miniseries, based on real life events, told the story of a group of young men from Beverly Hills who planned and carried out two murders, including the killing of the father of one of the members of the group. As the young man watched the movie, he called to his older brother who joined him and together they watched the "Billionaire Boys Club." Later, they began to discuss killing their father. Each brother complained to the other about how domineering and controlling their father was, how impossible it was for either brother to please him, how he planned to disinherit both brothers from his will and how poorly he treated their mother. The brothers rationalized that if they killed their father, they would have to kill their mother because she could not survive emotionally without their father. She could also be a living witness to the crime they were about to commit. The older brother wanted to plan the murders so that they would be as "perfect as could be," but the younger brother could not wait and insisted that the murders take place as soon as possible. The miniseries was shown over two nights, July 30 and 31, 1989, and the murders occurred on the night of August 20, 1989.
