Beskrivelse af A House Of Gentlefolk
A House of Gentlefolk is a novel written by Ivan Turgenev, a prominent Russian writer. The book is set in the mid-nineteenth century and revolves around the lives of the Russian aristocracy. It tells the story of a young nobleman named Lavretsky who returns to his estate in the countryside after spending several years abroad. He finds that his wife has been unfaithful and has left him for another man. Lavretsky is devastated and tries to rebuild his life by immersing himself in his estate and the company of his neighbors. He becomes close friends with a family of gentlefolk, the Kalitins, who are also struggling with their own personal problems. The novel explores themes of love, betrayal, social class, and the changing landscape of Russia during the nineteenth century. Turgenev's writing is known for its poetic language and vivid descriptions of nature. A House of Gentlefolk is a classic work of Russian literature that continues to be widely read and studied today.Lisa blushed and thought what a queer man. Lavretsky stopped for an instant in the hall. Lisa went into the drawing-room, where Panshin's voice and laugh could be heard; he had been communicating some gossip of the town to Marya Dmitrievna, and Gedeonovsky, who by this time had come in from the garden, and he was himself laughing aloud at the story he was telling. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
