When Stocks go Critical

We apply concepts of phase transitions as found in physical and chemical systems to finance and economics, using a polymeric approach to construct a well-defined order parameter. Significant changes in this order parameter are reviewed alongside changes in financial price series and qualitative interpretation is made of the frequent co-incident relationship between the two.
