Beskrivelse af The Unjust Steward
The Unjust Steward: Or The Minister¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s Debt is a novel written by Margaret Oliphant and published in 1896. The story revolves around a minister named Mr. Warburton who is faced with a difficult financial situation. He owes a large sum of money to a moneylender named Mr. Dempster and is unable to pay it back. In order to avoid being exposed and disgraced, Mr. Warburton turns to his friend, Mr. Allan, for help.Mr. Allan agrees to lend him the money on the condition that Mr. Warburton will marry his daughter, Lucy. Mr. Warburton agrees to the proposal, but soon realizes that he has made a mistake. He is not in love with Lucy and is unable to fulfill his duties as a husband. Meanwhile, Mr. Dempster is determined to get his money back and threatens to reveal Mr. Warburton's secret to the public. The novel explores themes of love, duty, and morality. It also sheds light on the social and economic conditions of the time, particularly the prevalence of moneylenders and their exploitative practices. The Unjust Steward: Or The Minister¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s Debt is a compelling story that highlights the consequences of making unethical choices and the importance of living a life of integrity. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
