Beskrivelse af The Two Noble Kinsmen
The Two Noble Kinsmen is a play written by John Fletcher and William Shakespeare. It is a tragicomedy that tells the story of two cousins, Palamon and Arcite, who fall in love with the same woman, Emilia. The play is set in ancient Greece and explores themes of love, jealousy, loyalty, and honor. The story begins with Palamon and Arcite, who are both imprisoned in Athens. They are both in love with Emilia, the sister of the Duke of Athens. When they are released from prison, they vow to fight for her love. The Duke sets up a tournament in which the winner will marry Emilia. Palamon and Arcite compete against each other, but their fight is interrupted by Theseus, the Duke of Athens.Theseus banishes them from Athens and tells them to return in a year with an army to fight for him. During this time, Palamon and Arcite continue to plot against each other and try to win Emilia's heart. However, their rivalry takes a tragic turn when they both die in the final battle. The play also features a subplot involving a group of rustic characters who put on a play for the Duke and his court. This subplot provides comic relief and contrasts with the more serious main plot.Overall, The Two Noble Kinsmen is a complex and engaging play that explores the complexities of love and loyalty. It is a unique collaboration between two of the most celebrated playwrights of the Elizabethan era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
