His is addressing his work to Lausus, who may be the same as Lausus the Eunuch, courtier to the Emperor Theodosius II. His work mostly dealings with the works and charity of various Egyptians saints, and their relationship to the establishment of local Coptic churches. While this is a work out of the Alexandrian church, Heraclides appears to have composed this work in Latin, rather than the lingua franca of Greek, or the more parochial Coptic tongue.
