Shackles of a Freeman: The Untold Story of Lewis Sheridan Leary

Lewis Leary was born into freedom on March 17, 1835, growing up in a wealthy free Black family in North Carolina. However, despite his privilege, he couldn't escape the harsh reality of slavery in the South. Guided by his unwavering friendship with a slave named Luke and settling in the anti-slavery town of Oberlin, Ohio, Lewis becomes a freedom fighter and skilled conductor on the Underground Railroad, risking his life to save others from bondage. When he meets abolitionist John Brown, Lewis rises to the challenge of ending slavery in America and finds himself in Harpers Ferry at the center of American history, taking part in an event which spearheaded the Country towards a Civil War.
