Mayhem at the Open

Bag om Mayhem at the Open

It was supposed to be an exciting golf tournament, not a life or death struggle. This is a golf story that takes place in the 1990s, when change was slower, before metal woods, before Tiger Woods soared, before some of the greats exited the game and before some of the more powerful antipsychotic drugs were invented. Young pro Kevin Turner travels to St. Andrews, Scotland to play in the oldest major golf championship. Although his caddie Foot may not arrive, he has vowed to make the cut, and even contend. Everything looks great when Foot shows up, Kevin qualifies for the championship and they find an ancient caddie, Oscar Brown, who fills them with invaluable course knowledge. Oscar, however, has been listening to his long-dead mentor to uphold the honor of the game by playing in the Open himself. He needs to take the place of a player. All the signs point to Kevin Turner. Oscar will stop at nothing to fulfill his destiny. Kevin has to be eliminated. Take a trip to the old grey toon, enjoy high-level competition on the Old Course, visit the castle dungeon in a way few are allowed, root for the young pro, and even for the psychotic murderer. Author Robert Brown was an Honorary Reader at the University of St. Andrews in the early '90s. He absorbed the spirit of Scotland, Scots, and the ancient game. He has also written The Golf Gods: Who They Are, What They Want and How to Appease Them, Murder on the Tour and his updated celebration of the game The Way of Golf.
