Beskrivelse af In The Bishop's Carriage (1904)
In The Bishop's Carriage is a novel written by Miriam Michelson and originally published in 1904. The story takes place in San Francisco during the early 1900s and follows the life of Sally Cardigan, a young woman who works as a stenographer. Sally is in love with her boss, John Hazard, but he is engaged to another woman. One day, Sally witnesses a robbery and is saved by a handsome bishop who offers to give her a ride home in his carriage. The bishop, who is also a wealthy philanthropist, takes an interest in Sally and offers to help her in any way he can. As Sally's life becomes more entwined with the bishop's, she begins to question her feelings for John Hazard and wonders if she is meant to be with the bishop instead. However, there are many obstacles in their way, including the bishop's position in society and the disapproval of Sally's family and friends. The novel explores themes of love, class, and social expectations, as well as the role of women in society during the early 1900s. It is a captivating story of romance and self-discovery that has remained popular for over a century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
