Beskrivelse af Hadji Murad
Hadji Murad is a novel by the famous Russian author Leo Tolstoy, published posthumously in 1912. The story is set in the Caucasus region of Russia during the mid-19th century and revolves around the character of Hadji Murad, a Muslim warrior and leader of a rebel group fighting against the Russian Empire. The novel opens with the news of Hadji Murad's defection from his own people and his decision to seek refuge with the Russians. He is welcomed by the Russian commander, Prince Vorontsov, who sees him as a valuable asset in the ongoing conflict. However, Hadji Murad's past catches up with him as his former comrades launch a series of attacks on the Russian forces, putting his life in danger. The novel explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the clash of cultures as Hadji Murad struggles to navigate his way through the complex political landscape of the region. Tolstoy's vivid descriptions of the landscape and the people of the Caucasus add to the richness of the story, making it a compelling read for anyone interested in Russian literature or historical fiction. Overall, Hadji Murad is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that showcases Tolstoy's mastery of the craft and his ability to capture the complexities of human nature in all its shades. This Hadji Murad was Shamil's naib, famous for his exploits, who used never to ride out without his banner and some dozens of murids, who caracoled and showed off before him. Now wrapped in a hood and burka, from under which protruded a rifle, he rode, a fugitive with one murid only, trying to attract as little attention as possible and peering with his quick black eyes into the faces of those he met on his way. -- Note: Tolstoy's last novel. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
